First off I don't believe waiting for the convention to announce the choice makes much sense. Way too much work to be done to wait around.
Putting personal opinion aside the best candidate for VP is Rubio. A few reasons here.
First choosing a black VP to swing the black vote. We have past experience on this, Mike Steele when he ran as senator and more recent with Bernie and Hillary. Even though our hearts would like to see the black vote swing it is entrenched and continues to vote Hillary. The risk to benefit is not a good one
On Rubio and his natural born citizenship, who cares it would be a distraction for the Democrats, they would insult some of their supporters and even if the lawsuit won by then the election would be over and Trump would be president.
On a women as VP. Do this if you want to make the election to be entirely about women, diminish Trumps issues, take a chance that an unknown will mess up, take Melania out of the spotlight and give Chris Matthews something else to think about.
Now Trump and Christie have a good look together but I dont see how he helps expand his voting block.
On Rubio and amnesty. Trump could appoint Vicenti Fox as his VP and still win on that issue.
On Cruz, this would help heal wounds in the party but brings nothing else not sure this is enough, and Rubio would do the same.
Rand Pauls name came up and was my first pick for President for me but he underperformed big time in the spotlight and trump already owns one of his major issues the wars in the middle east.
Kasich gives him help in Ohio and wont hurt Trump in the election, will help in governing, but offers nothing else.
Back to Rubio, first I am not saying I agree with all his policies, I dont, but this is about winning and stopping Hillary. Having Rubio on board negates all the negative publicity the republican party put out on Trump, putting it out as only politics the real Trump is (right your narrative here). The Hispanics who do swing vote are inclined to rethink their vote. Rubio has performed well in the spotlight no surprises. This could be a huge shift for Trump with Hispanics. Also Rubio has ties to Mormons which can be helpful. Then Trump can focus on whats left, like women voting issues; jobs, safety and and end to war and affordable healthcare. And how Hillary has not.
Oh look. Another open borders shill being proposed ~ one who gave Sharia courts to Muslims in Texas.
Hell no.
We worked hard to run that dipstick out of politics in Texas, and we damned well don’t need anyone who has been joined at the hip to Islam in the next administration.
Which is why Trump has to offer Kasich something big other than VP, something where he feels good but his liberalism doesn't impede the Trump agenda. Head of the VA would work for me, if Kasich doesn't consider it too small for his self-esteem.
“Fallin doesnt satisfy his hope of someone with strong relationships in Congress.”
I believe she served in congress from 2007 to 2011.
Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin seems to have solid conservative ratings, plus having served two terms as a Congresswoman before becoming governor.
Looks like a viable choice.
Anchor baby? Queue the “The keep using that word...” meme. Whether or not Rubio is a NBC, he isn’t an anchor baby. Both his parents were permanent legal residents. And anchor baby is someone born to people here illegally, or on a temporary visa to give them a claim to stay here.
Webb is a Socialist, thug, creep and pederast author.
Enough with the Gingrich VP talk! Gingrich is PERFECT for White House Chief of Staff but brings NOTHING to the table as a VP. Gingrich would be a great consigliere.
The VP has to bring other voters into the fold, and given Trump’s age, has to be young to attract voters concerned with looks over substance. The VP has to be absolutely pure as the wind driven snow with no surprise ethics problems.
Newt, good white house chief of staff—Need someone from the South to ballence the ticket. Rick Perry? Haily Berry? or that Black General who was so important during Katrina. A genetral would be good—MacCandles? A person who will help him with people—My support would be for Dr. Ben Carson-—a beloved figure who is smart and may well draw in some black votes.
Why forgo a women due to identity politics then turn around and promote Rubio because he’s Hispanic?
Here’s my short list:
Jan Brewer, former Governor of Arizona
Mary Fallin, Governor of Oklahoma
Susana Martinez, Governor of New Mexico (hey, if you’re looking for an Hispanic...)
No. I don’t want a Cuban weasel one step away from the presidency. He has nothing to offer beyond a Hispanic name.
He is in favor of amnesty.
Marla Maples.
Deep in the pocket of the lobbyists.
Newt= great White House spokesperson...he’d piss off the media for sure...imagine them having to see his face daily. Love it!
I would like for you to be right but how does Rick Perry help win NY or FL. And TX is a given even if Trump chose Rachel Maddow as his running mate.
the Donald understands good TV. The convention must be great TV. There must be suspense, excitment... no boring Susanna Martinez or Clint’s empty chair.
Keeping the media guessing about VP keeps it in the 24/7 news cycle.
Trump should keep us guessing about other things between now and the Convention. To do otherwise is to let the establishment control the convention. That translates into boring TV.
If donald has access to Newt for cheif of staff, either real or theoretically... he can put anyone in as VP as long as they reassure the base, attack the GOPe, and reveal Trump’s shrewdness to the the party.
OK you win
Rubio is also NBC of the gang of 8
New York and Florida are a given for Trump and Perry has military, executive experience and jobs credibility, just a name as few pluses.
looks like an alpha male... presiding over a LOT of alpha males. I like that.
