First off I don't believe waiting for the convention to announce the choice makes much sense. Way too much work to be done to wait around.
Putting personal opinion aside the best candidate for VP is Rubio. A few reasons here.
First choosing a black VP to swing the black vote. We have past experience on this, Mike Steele when he ran as senator and more recent with Bernie and Hillary. Even though our hearts would like to see the black vote swing it is entrenched and continues to vote Hillary. The risk to benefit is not a good one
On Rubio and his natural born citizenship, who cares it would be a distraction for the Democrats, they would insult some of their supporters and even if the lawsuit won by then the election would be over and Trump would be president.
On a women as VP. Do this if you want to make the election to be entirely about women, diminish Trumps issues, take a chance that an unknown will mess up, take Melania out of the spotlight and give Chris Matthews something else to think about.
Now Trump and Christie have a good look together but I dont see how he helps expand his voting block.
On Rubio and amnesty. Trump could appoint Vicenti Fox as his VP and still win on that issue.
On Cruz, this would help heal wounds in the party but brings nothing else not sure this is enough, and Rubio would do the same.
Rand Pauls name came up and was my first pick for President for me but he underperformed big time in the spotlight and trump already owns one of his major issues the wars in the middle east.
Kasich gives him help in Ohio and wont hurt Trump in the election, will help in governing, but offers nothing else.
Back to Rubio, first I am not saying I agree with all his policies, I dont, but this is about winning and stopping Hillary. Having Rubio on board negates all the negative publicity the republican party put out on Trump, putting it out as only politics the real Trump is (right your narrative here). The Hispanics who do swing vote are inclined to rethink their vote. Rubio has performed well in the spotlight no surprises. This could be a huge shift for Trump with Hispanics. Also Rubio has ties to Mormons which can be helpful. Then Trump can focus on whats left, like women voting issues; jobs, safety and and end to war and affordable healthcare. And how Hillary has not.
OK by me.
I heard yesterday that Sessions has withdrew his name for VP consideration.
I agree. If Trump can take Cali, all the other little battles mean Jack squat.
>>Its going to be Sessions. Everything else is theater so people will support him over the possibility of being VP.
This has been my gut “feeling” from the beginning of the speculation. There is none better than Jeff Sessions.
My hope is that Jeff Sessions is his VP for the first term, wiht DJT bringing in a younger version of himself for the second VP term, thereby paving the way for 16 years of restoration and prosperity.
Really? Darn!
What Trump needs is NOT a governor. I don’t want Trump to learn the ropes of how things work in D.C., I want D.C. to learn how things work with Donald Trump.....otherwise we are just turning him into another politico. Hell NO.
We will do fine domestically reforming Government but what Trump will need is someone who knows INTERNATIONAL MILITARY SITUATIONS, TACTICAL AND STRATEGIC.
Joseph F. Dunford, Jr. General. Has been both Commandant of the USMC AND CHIEF OF THE JOINT CHIEFS OF STAFF...HAS BEEN IN COMBAT AND CALLED FIGHTING JOE BY GEN. MATTIS.
I hear you.
>This has been my gut feeling from the beginning of the speculation. There is none better than Jeff Sessions.
You have good instincts. The issue here is about trust and how little Trump has for the people who run this country. The only major exception is Jeff.
Webb would be good to....and might help get Virginia.
That looks like Mary Fallin.
Yes.
It’s crazy.
Unless one isn’t conservative.
I’d love to see Gov. Fallin as his pick.
Trump can’t afford a GOPe mole as his veep—there’d be sabotage within, the moral hazard of one of them to take office if something were to happen to Trump, and then the lining up a RINO to succeed him.
Fallin doesn’t satisfy his hope of someone with strong relationships in Congress. But how strongly she would reassure the base and take away the false GOPe claims that they are upset because Trump isn’t conservative enough.
She could be the Margaret Thatcher to Trump’s Poppy—keeping him from going wobbly on immigration and the like.
Why not?
Why should your ignorance keep her from being considered?
I actually think it more likely he’ll pick someone like Jeff Sessions, however.
And I’ll be grievously disappointed if he goes for a closet liberal such as Rubio or Kasich.
Demographic: Gov. Rick Perry -— New York, Florida and Texas all wrapped up.
That would be a good choice.
Not necessarily my first choice, but Rep. Mia Love (R-UT) is an up-and-comer.
Among the downsides, though: blacks may not be as swayed as they might be by, say, Tim Scott (R-SC). I hate to play in stereotypes, but he came up from poverty with a single mom. Love was born to married Haitian immigrants and lives in one of the least-black areas of the USA.
Ya, who cares about the Constitution anyway? It was written by a bunch of racist, slave-owning old white guys. We should also end the ridiculous oath sworn by our military and elected officials to protect and defend it.
Love the Duncan Hunter pick but Trump has ZERO chance of winning Mexifornia. IMO, PA is the key. Win there and pick up FL and OH and we’ve got 273 EV.
