Norman Rockwell has replaced the bald eagle as our national icon
In a unanimous vote, Congress passed the "LET'S MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN bill" that names Norman Rockwell as the educator and illustrator for the growth Amaerica HAS seen, and WILL SEE, henceforth
And a few of us younger folks remember the rebuilding of our economy from the disastrous Carter years into a powerhouse by the mid 1980’s.
I am so glad we get such great and important work out of our representatives.
Nobody ever heard of Norman Rockwell, you know. It’s not like he’s Lady Gaga or something.
On one hand, it’s nice when they do something that does not take rights away nor impinge upon commerce.
On the other, kabuki like this makes them feel important enough to impose 2x the crap they should not.
His paintings showed all that was good about America, and he celebrated the American spirit. And if any lefties start hating on Rockwell, I'd just remind them of his bold, brave painting on desegregation, “The Problem We All Live With”.

I have always considered Rockwell the greatest painter that ever lived. His realism is beyond words. And his subject matter is the story of my life.
It is worth noting that the US marshals seen in the painting protecting the little girl were sent by REPUBLICAN president Eisenhower. I hope race-baiters like Sharpton, etc. got that. REPUBLICAN president Eisenhower.
In Rockwell's day, teachers supported and were expected to support American values - and in turn were respected.
The painting you posted obviously focuses on the lady and the boy praying, and the young men's reaction to that. But take a look at the man standing at the far left, almost out of the picture. His face says a lot!
We need to, but never will, return to the Constitution.
I invite you to visit the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, MA in the Berkshire Mountains near the western border. There’s a small room where you can stand in the middle and be surrounded by the original Four Freedoms paintings.
I sat quietly before my NY primary ballot a couple weeks ago. Rockwell’s Freedom of Speech painting came clearly to mind. I voted for Trump. The same painting came to mind last night.
That painting inspired me to get elected to the school board and inspires me to buck their socialist agenda
Wow, what a way to throw cold water on a pleasant thread. My favorite singer of all time is Jo Stafford. Under your logic I should not look for another singer such as Jo because she sang during the New Deal, etc.
By the way, b-e, you are certainly correct about the need to return to the ideals of the Constitution! But Rockwell was promoting those ideals, not undermining them. His Four Freedoms painting (post #9 here) is just one example of that.
And, history tells us that proportionally more Republicans voted for the Civil Rights Act of 1964 than did Democrats.
Lost to history is the key role played by Republican senator Everett Dirksen, in breaking the filibuster on that legislation as it worked its way through Congress.
I never understand how the mythology grew up, that Democrats were all in favor of civil rights, and Republicans opposed. Yet that mythology set up a trend where even today, blacks vote 90+% for Democrat candidates for all offices, from president on down. If they are voting that way to reward Democrats for giving them equal rights under the law, their voting that way is a mistake.

You never had to wonder what the message of Norman’s illustrations were. As I was growing up he was my role model. I became a self-taught commercial artist by age 10. My lifetime career as a professional illustrator is rooted in admiration for Norman Rockwell, Frederick Remington and many others who had respect for American people. They do not need to replace the bald eagle as our national symbol. Their art reinforces the concept.
