I'll keep this vanity short ... Mods: please feel free to pull it if it's inappropriate.
Why have so many here on FR turned on Ted Cruz in such a vicious way?
We cheered when we first heard about Ted taking on the establishment in TX to win the primary in the race to fill Kay Bailey Hutchison's vacated Senate seat, in a bad year for the GOP
We cheered again when Ted exhorted us to 'Stand With Rand' when he offered public support for Rand Paul's filibuster over the NDAA
Once more, we cheered when he stood on the Senate floor and urged his colleagues to join him and use the power of the purse to kill Obamacare
We nodded our collective heads in approval when he openly and correctly called Mitch McConnell a liar
And we jumped for joy when he became the first GOPer to announce a presidential run!
So ... what happened? Yes, Trump announced. But at first, not too many people took him seriously. For the longest time, there seemed to be an unspoken pact between Trump and Cruz, where they occasionally said nice things about each other while bashing the other candidates.
But ever since the voting began and Trump turned on Cruz (starting with the Ben Carson imbroglio in Iowa), a large contingent of FReepers did the same and seem to be echoing RINOs like John Boehner and Peter King in their absolute abhorrence of Cruz.
Yes, we need to choose sides, but for God's sake, can't we send that kind of vitriol in the direction that it belongs, ie. Hildabeast and the 'Rat Party, and knock off the circular firing squad?
Cruz has messed up, and Freepers noticed. Sue us.
There is a practical reason for not supporting Cruz. He can’t win in the general.
This is not 1980. A doctrinaire conservative cannot get any purple states to secure the election against the Dems.
A populist with conservative leanings, i.e. Donald Trump, can win enough purple states and maybe even some blue states to beat the Dems. Trump is scooping up blue-collar dems and independents, voters who would never vote for Cruz.
Trump can beat Hillary. With Cruz, it’s unlikely.
Because you’re delusional!
I bought Ted’s book. Right out of the gate he played dirty politics in IA. After that it was lies, half truths and misrepresentations continuing right up to today.
Add to that making the exact wrong decisions - using very shallow short term thinking. NO way do I want that in a president. I want a strategic out-of-the-box thinker.
Ted has been a HUGE disappointment.
Your boy IS a liar! Ted Cruz Lies TEN Times in Under FIVE Minutes!
Exactly!! I too voted forCruz here in Texas ...I don’t despise or think him evil. The evil ones are The RNC elites. I will vote this election for whoever our nominate is and I’ll crawl through broken glass to vote to keep the evil vomit couple from hell outta the WH!!! Our country is in desperate need of unity among our party and I will pray for the Cruz family and the Trump family because they’ll need it in the coming hellish months ahead. I would rather pray for our candidates then curse them!
The last conservative to get Dems to vote for him was Reagan. He may not been a conservative in your book, but he is in mine. To win you need to pull conservative Dems and that is exactly what he is doing.
He is far more conservative than Dead Cruz.
Pray America wakes
I agree. Having to watch him on the local Democrat news blaming Trump for the anarchists that shut down Trump’s Chicago rally was it for me. I expected the Constitutional conservative to defend free speech. Maybe he doesn’t have a complete understanding of what we face here in Chicago. It made him look like just another opportunistic politician and the local news readers were happy to have him all over the 10 o’clock local news that night. I was going to vote Cruz in the Illinois primary. Then Dr. Carson, who I admire, endorsed Trump around the same time Cruz had Glenn Beck introducing his rallies. Beck? Really? Those two things turned me around. Since then, I feel that he is playing the clever Washington lawyer, figuring out ways to get around the people voting to get delegates. I was a big Mark Levin fan too and I had to stop listening to him.
LOL!
The fight with Hillary has not yet begun...Wait till after the nomination and you will see Hillary sink...
He has turned on the voters. He has lied, pulled some dirty shenanigans and so on. It all started with Iowa. And his preachy way of speaking is a big turn off.
It will soon be time to pillory hillary...
become a weird cult of personality
No cult of personality. Everything Cruz has said, done or the people he has associated with this campaign season has been the opposite of his persona. Most of us who fell away from Sen. Cruz feel we were fooled and betrayed. And Cruz continues to thumb his nose at the American voters.
Hence, my opposition to Trump. And I did say I wanted anyone who would defeat Hillary. Trumpsters are just making it very difficult to keep that perspective.
Because Ted Cruz is a lying jerk.
I started out liking him, but the more I listened to him, the more I understood why so many people in his life don’t like him. He’s just not a likable person.
The fiasco in iowa regarding the Carson campaign I thought was really bad form. The riot blame and then neil bush.Beck and then snarley as vp? You have got to be kidding me.I could go on.
Yep...It’s coming...I believe it is going to be a joy to watch.....
