My non opus, opus
May 2, 2016 | Shotgun

Posted on 05/02/2016 1:24:41 PM PDT by shotgun

What has happened to the Free Republic that I can’t break away from? You know the one where you knew something big was happening in the world because you couldn’t open the site because of too much traffic (late 90’s)? The one that where you read articles that were of great interest on science, religion, or the bizarro? The one where you would have to don a flame retardant suit if you posted something that was outside the thought prevailing thought process of the other posters? I long for those days as I am sure many of us do as well as those that left. I don’t particularly care for the bulk of the political posting but, like watching television, have decided not to open them up rather than throw in the towel and leave the site. Yet I’m still here waiting for those days to return, checking in every 15 minutes for earth shaking news. These days will pass albeit slower than I like and so too will this election cycle. Interesting times are ahead…

You’re right. Liberals do not hold the copyright and trademark on group mentality but conservatives tolerate a greater diversity of opinion and thought than they do.

I guess for myself is the Cruz/Trump thing hasn’t been so noticeable because I was on the fence and okay with supporting EITHER of them up until recently. I mean I had two choices out of seventeen and one of them looks to be winning. I couldn’t be happier!

And I’d say the same thing if Cruz was winning and Trump wasn’t.

Ah, finally, someone with a screen name I can identify with. Love Tabasco and all hot sauces. That's how I get my HotHunt moniker.

But I digress. Back to business. John McCain is prime example of the loser the establishment wanted us to believe was a conservative that would win in 2008. Really? REALLY? McCain is a bigger liberal than many liberals are. I quit voting for him in the last several election cycles before I moved to Florida from Arizona.

McCain has never been a conservative, not even a RINO. He's a liberal with an "R" behind his name. He is an example of why so many people are angry at the GOP establishment this time around. Because every 4 years they roll out another loser and one of two things happen. Either our guy wins and then they forget about their conservative bonafides after getting in office or we lose big time to the dems because our guy sucks so bad to the general electorate.

Now comes along a guy like Trump who is hitting it out of the park attracting voters, and the GOP elites don't want him. And they are overtly trying to pull a Tanya Harding on the guy to cut him off at the knees. This tells me everything I need to know about the GOP and it isn't pretty.

The Cruzers seem to have Stockholm Syndrome

The Trumpers seem to have Pied Piper of Hamlin Syndrome

Me, I am voting for anyone but Hitler-y Rotten Klinton.

I started out very much towards Cruz, then flirted a bit with Trump then back to Cruz, However.

Cruz has soured on me with his support for TPA/TPP/H1B mess and his picking of iCarly H1B Queen for Veep.

I like Trump’s message, but I don’t trust him to actually carry through with 10% of his campaign promises based on his past history in business and shmoozing to politicians, even the Klintoons and Mitch McConnel, and his Golfing Buddy Boehner.

I will vote for whomever WINS the Republican Nomination, be it Trump or Cruz against Hillary. However if they pick Paul Ryan or Drinky McKay-Sick I am gonna Vote for 3rd party, constitution or Libertarian or just stay home for the first time on election day.

“Lyin’ Ted is mocking - a long-standing staple of political discourse. “

How about “Whorin Trump”? Or “Gold Digger Melania”? I’m sure you will find those just to be mocking, long standing political discourse.

Or does it only work in one direction?

“Checking in every 15 minutes for earth shaking news”

Ohhhhhh.....you have to check in every 16 minutes for the earth shaking news. You might get some earth rumbling news every 15 minutes, but the earth shaking news is a minute later.

Now, earth shattering news is every half hour unless it’s Tuesday.

How about “Whorin Trump”? Or “Gold Digger Melania”?

Here's the principle...

If you want it to stick, it has to be true.

I am not aware of any evidence that Trump ever went to a prostitute. Nor am I aware that Melania married Trump for money. So, you can certainly say those two things, but I don't believe they will gain currency.

Or does it only work in one direction?

Always works in every direction, when it contains truth. It historically marks the zenith of popularity, when people begin to make fun of the person, their symbols, etc.

Witness the turning on Obama.

I am quite anxious for all the drama queenery to abate, butt I fear that these public displays of butthurtery may not abate until well after the convention.

When God created chattering monkeys, He endowed them with feelings and egos, which are fragile.
