A Colorado man says he was kicked out of a baseball game after he tossed a home run ball back onto the field.
Brandon Sanchez told KDVR that he, his wife and stepsons were enjoying the Colorado Rockies-San Francisco Giants game Tuesday night when the Giants hit a home run.
The home run ball landed in Sanchez's hands.
Although his stepsons were excited, Sanchez said he couldn't care less.
I threw the ball back just because it was San Franciscos home run and I wanted the Story home run ball, he said, referring to Rockies rookie shortstop Trevor Story.
Moments later, security approached Sanchez and told him he and his family had to leave, KDVR reports.
And were like What? Just for throwing the ball back out on the field?' he said.
Sanchez says he had no clue that he had broken a rule.
According to the Rockies rules, At no time should a foul or home run ball be thrown back on the field. Violators will be subject to ejection.
Sanchez told KDRV that he learned his lesson the hard way and plans on holding on to the next home run ball he catches.
This is the rule at a lot of parks - you’re not allowed to throw ANYTHING onto the field, or will be ejected.
back in the mid ‘90’s when I lived in San Diego some dolt in the Padre’s organization had a “signed ball giveaway” promotion for a day game. Against the Cubs. THOUSANDS of Cubs fans show at every game.
A Padre hit a homer.
Several hundred, if not thousand balls were thrown onto the field.
It was pretty hilarious.
Bfl
“Thanks, dad!”
He’s gonna go to another game after that?
The publicity he’s getting is definitely worth the ejection. I bet he never has to buy a ticket or beer at the stadium again.
This is what you call anti good will for a business or maybe ill will.
If I have to pay $10+ beers I am keeping anything I catch.....Be careful there, Sparky. You might P.O. your wife!!!
They don’t want players or anyone else getting hit in the back of the head. Besides, it should have only taken 3 seconds to find a dozen kids in the stands who wanted the ball.
The Latino Steve Bartman?
Just finished watching “Catching Hell” last night.
Yeah become Cub fans they been doing that for years LOL!
It is America’s game.
If I had $1 for every baseball I have seen returned to the field of play when I was watching my sons play ball, I could buy season tickets to a major league team’s games. When my brothers were playing, a ball returned earned a free snow cone.
The Rockies took a big chunk of Royals fans away and ended up with a franchise that has never been quite right. Pitchers don’t want to play there and it ranks somewhere below football, rodeos, skiing, and bong parties in term of leisure activities. Throwing enemy home runs back on the field is mandatory.
“Bleacher Bum” fans at Texas Ranger games have also contracted this mental disorder that is apparently epidemic at Wrigley Field. (Of course “bleacher bum” is a bit of a misnomer given the outrageous prices of outfield home run porch seats in Texas, but I digress.) It is rather funny every time a visiting team home run is hit. The moron in the outfield seats that catches the ball invariably throws it back onto the field to the loud cheers of the rest of the mentally unstable fans. The ball is then retrieved by one of the “ball girls” (we used to have ball boys but now most of them are girls who play either high school or college fast pitch softball) and then the ball girl returns to her station along the foul line and dozens of foul line seat fans beg and clamor for her to toss them the ball. So some lucky fan takes home that home run ball from the visiting team after the dufus that caught it throws it back onto the field.
When would a Cubs player hit a home run?
You might want to consider going to the ballet. Coarse behavior like this isn’t tolerated.
Coarse behavior like what? Throwing balls onto the field, or calling morons that do mentally unstable?
What about cheerleaders?
