Donald 'Jesus' Trump
American Thinker ^ | April 8, 2016 | Paul Kengor

It has been hard enough for me, as a Reagan scholar, to forebear claims by Trump supporters of alleged commonalities between Ronald Reagan and Donald Trump. Some lost soul, in a fit of madness, composed a list of 15 uncanny “similarities” between the two. The list has gone viral and has been sent to me too many times. I’ve resisted responding to it, and -- pray God -- I will not need to.

But speaking of God, other analogies are being made by Trump supporters that wrench my stomach so hard that I need to vent as a form of therapy.

It started about six weeks ago when a family friend posted something on Facebook. It was an Old Testament verse, a prophetic one, invoked in the name of and alongside a photo of Donald Trump. I initially thought it was a joke. I will not repeat it here. It’s plainly blasphemous.

Then, three weeks ago, another incident during one of my regular appearances on a syndicated Christian talk-show that I do frequently, a wonderful show run by a terrific group of people. I will leave it nameless to spare embarrassment, especially given that they were surely as stupefied as I was. A woman called in with a list of “seven parallels I have discovered in the lives of Jesus and Donald Trump.” She informed the stunned host that these were based on her own “research.” Here are some of her comparisons:

The problem isn't with what he's saying. The problem is that he has only been saying them during a season when he's come out to run for the nomination of a -- at least nominally -- conservative party.

Now, you can say he's undergone a conversion. Fair enough. But the problem is, whenever he's up against the wall or shooting from the hip, he seems to return to his old liberalism. That's not very convincing evidence of conversion.

I'd love to believe Trump. IF I believed Trump I'd be as full throated a supporter as anyone on this forum. But I don't believe Trump. He hasn't given me any reason to abandon my mistrust, but he has given a lot of reasons to reinforce it.

Honestly, I have no clue where this "Trump is liberal" meme comes from. Trump has a public record spanning decades, where he has lived conservative values and practices for everyone to see. Then people like you come along and claim that he is liberal, although I have yet to see any example of Trump's alleged liberal beliefs or behaviors.

Let's be clear here: you do understand that we are talking about Donald Trump, and not Warren Buffet? Because the things you say would actually apply to Buffet, who made billions through the application of good old capitalism (in other words acted like a conservative), but he speaks like a full-blown socialist and avidly supports socialist programs.

If you are going to claim that Trump's past donations to Democrats is proof that he is liberal, let me nip that in the bud: politicians have the power to destroy businesses. And if businesses don't donate to those politicians, the politicians *will* destroy them. Thus, the donations that all businesses make to both major political parties is analogous to the "protection" money that small businesses have to pay to organized crime to be left alone.

Now, I suggest going to Trump's website and reading his policy statements for yourself. He has selected seven issues to address as president: wisely not overreaching and promising more than anyone can do, but selecting carefully among many issues that need attention. Please read his statements and tell me, which of them are anything other than conservative? And then keep in mind that Trump has executive experience, so he has already demonstrated that he has the skill set necessary to make those reforms happen (as opposed to a lawyer who has no executive skills or qualifications, whose "experience" consists of arguing a handful of cases in court).

I’ve got to give you kudos on that post. Brilliantly stated. That’s the argument I’ve been making since Donald Trump entered the race back in June.

Donald Trump lives his life as a conservative. So he’s not an ideological conservative, big whoop.

Cruz may indeed have been anointed by the Holy Spirit but you already know that this video NEVER says Cruz will gather the wealth as king.

Unlike Reagan, Trump is a conman (Trump University) Ulike Reagan, Trump is a snake oil salesman (Trump Taj Mahal Casino;Trump Steaks, Trump Shuttle)

Um... so investing in a failed business venture makes one a "snake oil salesman"?

I don't judge Trump by the handful of failed businesses, but by the plethora of successful businesses. The fact that he didn't keep supporting the failures tells me that he is the person we need to start pruning out some of the failed programs/agencies that are bloating our government and depressing our economy. No politician will do that, and Cruz, being a lawyer, won't do anything about that, either. (Being that lawyer politicians' "solution" to everything is to make more laws, which only makes the situation worse.)

BTW, I just looked up the Taj Mahal Casino. The troubles it had were not because of bad management practices, but because of a union--in other words, because of liberals. And you know as well as I do that unions will happily destroy businesses out of malignant greed. Taj Mahal is still open; Trump's name is still on the building. You can stay there right now for a fairly reasonable rate (during the week, anyway).

I also ask over and over and over WHY do they tear down my candidate........
......and almost NEVER tout their candidate’s attributes??????

Well, that's because their candidate's qualifications are solely that he has argued a few cases successfully in court. That's it. He is exactly as qualified as Obama. So they can't get support for him by touting his experience and qualifications, they have to instead resort to trying to take out the guy who does have the experience and qualifications for the job.

Reagan was the “Great Communicator” who artfully conveyed a vision of American Exceptionialism to the masses, while Clintonista Trump uses Twitter to vent his inner foul-mouthed juvenile.

Indeed. Have you actually checked out Trump's Twitter feed for yourself, or are you just repeating stuff you read in the MSM (which has a highly visible agenda to destroy anyone who stands in the way of their socialist "utopia"). If you go to Trump's Twitter, as I have, you will see foul-mouthed juvenile utterances such as

"Donald J. Trump ‏@realDonaldTrump 11h11 hours ago "@RepMartinDaniel: We support you #HaileyPuckett. You will go far in life. Smart and courageous!"

or

"Donald J. Trump ‏@realDonaldTrump 19h19 hours ago Looks like I was right about NATO. I had no doubt. http://foreignpolicy.com/2016/04/06/senators-slam-nato-free-riders-in-closed-door-meeting-with-secretary-general/ …"

You see an equal amount of juvenile foul language from his followers:

Donald J. Trump ‏@realDonaldTrump 12h12 hours ago "@kirstiealley: HELLO BOYS! this is my formal endorsement of @realDonaldTrump & I'm a woman! (last I checked) And Rudy, U R amazing!" (Note: this is Kirstie Alley, the actress, endorsing Trump.)

Okay, I'm being a bit sarcastic here. The point is, don't repeat stuff unless you verify it to be true for yourself. Like it or not, the social media such as Twitter is how you reach young people these days. And Trump is reaching out to them.

Trump has negotiated for their votes cause he is a negotiator. Lots of compromising is made in these negotiations as is evident with these folks.

Without negotiating and coming to a mutually acceptable compromise, nothing gets done.

Are you aware that throughout most of Obama's presidency, there has not been a federal budget--or if a budget does go through, it is months late?

That is because Obama will not negotiate or compromise. It is his way or the high way--and it is affecting the operation of every federal agency.

We need a tough negotiator--not someone who will bend and collapse at the first sign of disagreement, and not someone who refuses to budge an inch if his radical ideas are not accepted. Trump has long experience as a shrewd negotiator.

I do not hear specifics from him. Just we will make that great. He has never shown he will fight for anything.

Really?

Trump has a long record, spanning decades, of showing that he gets things done when he sets his mind to it. He should not have to focus his campaign on what a successful executive he is, since it is already public record. Very public, even.

Let me ask you: what is Cruz's record? Where has Cruz demonstrated ANY executive skills? He is a lawyer, for Pete's sake. And lawyers' default actions are to write more laws and file more lawsuits. In what way does this experience qualify Cruz to hold the top executive office in the country?

I'll give you a hint: the current occupant of the top executive office is a lawyer, whose skill set is not all that different than that of Cruz; the difference is that one talks socialist, and the other talks conservative. How well has that lawyer done in that executive position? And why would we expect another lawyer to do any better?

“Gather the wealth” is exactly what Ted “A Time For Truth” Cruz has been doing ever since he lept into bed to gleefully fornicate with the establishment republican elites.

Dude. All flaming aside, I’m a minister. I know my Scripture; I know my Hebrew; I know my Greek.

And I know what ‘Messiah’ means.

You can try to gainsay me all you want, but it doesn’t change the truth.

I know he has made tons of money (did he fair well with the real estate bubble after donating to Dodd and arguing against Reagans economic policies in regards to loosening credit?) but golf membership is down, vacations? who can go anywhere? and he did a wonderful job in developing Atlantic City, the future of America.

We’re talking about NOT using FR for propaganda.

You're talking about shutting down opinions you disagree with, which is exactly what we'd expect from the closet progtard followers of a longtime liberal like Drumpf.

Honestly, I have no clue where this "Trump is liberal" meme comes from. Trump has a public record spanning decades, where he has lived conservative values and practices for everyone to see.

Honestly?

Either please be honest, Or please be serious. Trump's record "spanning decades" is liberal, and his history of donating to Democrats isn't his only problem, although his claims that this is the cost of doing business are a bunch of malarky that only a completely deluded moron could possibly believe. There are several billionaires with a lot more real money than Donald Trump's mostly imaginary net worth, who have never done that. So again: please, by all means let's be honest.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2015/07/09/ths-many-ways-in-which-donald-trump-was-once-a-liberals-liberal/

And before you tell me that it's the WaPo, please read the article. Most of it is in The Drumpf's own words.
