Donald 'Jesus' Trump
American Thinker ^ | April 8, 2016 | Paul Kengor

It has been hard enough for me, as a Reagan scholar, to forebear claims by Trump supporters of alleged commonalities between Ronald Reagan and Donald Trump. Some lost soul, in a fit of madness, composed a list of 15 uncanny “similarities” between the two. The list has gone viral and has been sent to me too many times. I’ve resisted responding to it, and -- pray God -- I will not need to.

But speaking of God, other analogies are being made by Trump supporters that wrench my stomach so hard that I need to vent as a form of therapy.

It started about six weeks ago when a family friend posted something on Facebook. It was an Old Testament verse, a prophetic one, invoked in the name of and alongside a photo of Donald Trump. I initially thought it was a joke. I will not repeat it here. It’s plainly blasphemous.

Then, three weeks ago, another incident during one of my regular appearances on a syndicated Christian talk-show that I do frequently, a wonderful show run by a terrific group of people. I will leave it nameless to spare embarrassment, especially given that they were surely as stupefied as I was. A woman called in with a list of “seven parallels I have discovered in the lives of Jesus and Donald Trump.” She informed the stunned host that these were based on her own “research.” Here are some of her comparisons:

Your post is what I keep asking over and over!!!!!!!

WHY would ‘ so called conservatives’ object to....

Honoring and caring for our Vets

Building up and restoring honor to our military

Building a wall on the southern border to protect and defend our nation from drug cartels......illegals......and terrorists

Stop Common Core

Repeal and replace obamacare

Create jobs and bring back American companies from overseas

Decrease the national debt

I also ask over and over and over WHY do they tear down my candidate........
......and almost NEVER tout their candidate’s attributes??????

And when they do tear down Trump they resort to his past......things that were said or did, or using words out of context as far back as 30 years ( and more) ago!

If anyone is going to USE Reagan to defend the Clintonisa, they should get their facts straight. Reagan switched parties in 1962, which is 5 years before he was elected Governor of California (YES... Reagan was a politician). Before that, Reagan’s views changed in the 1950’s, as he endorsed the presidential candidacies of Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1952 and 1956 as well as Richard Nixon in 1960. Reagan gained national attention in his speeches for conservative presidential contender Barry Goldwater in 1964. Even then, he didn’t immediately run for POTUS, but a lesser office to prove his credentials matched his rhetoric.

In contrast, Trump supported the candidacy of Bill Clinton, and credits Slick Willy as the best president in the last 20 years, said Marxist Hillary would make a good president, said he was moved by Obama’s speech, and didn’t change his supportive views on Obama or flipped his liberal positions (abortion, gun control, universal healthcare, eminent domain, etc.) until March of 2011 (when he first ran for POTUS). Can you imagine Reagan endorsing McGovern or saying Carter would make a good president before running himself? He would have never won.

Reagan was the “Great Communicator” who artfully conveyed a vision of American Exceptionialism to the masses, while Clintonista Trump uses Twitter to vent his inner foul-mouthed juvenile.

Reagan was a God-fearing Christian man, while at best, Trump is a deist who says, “I’m not sure I have ever asked God’s forgiveness. I don’t bring God into that picture.” Please STOP comparing the fraud to Reagan.

The list is long in space, but short in substance. Here I’ll give you one more,

16. Both Trump and Reagan enjoyed breathing air

Trump has negotiated for their votes cause he is a negotiator. Lots of compromising is made in these negotiations as is evident with these folks. It’s going to be a rough landing for them when they will one day have enough of the Orange Ass-Clown.

While I detest the support of Glen Beck, the Orange Ass-Clown has bankrolled the Campaigns of democRats, who are his friends, and crime syndicates like the Clinton Crime family.

Take your shrilly fake Conservative crap where it belongs, the DNC.

Funny how when some misguided folks seem to make analogies between Trump and God (while Trump doesn't do so himself), get all in a huff - yet they never bat an eye when Cruz is the self-proclaimed Christian choice and endorsed by God Himself.....

How pathetic that months ago folks were leery of Trump because he downplayed his religion and these days they try to make it look like he considers himself to be Himself.....

Trump should be more associated with Winston Churchill.

He is the current day Churchill - warning us of the dangers of Islaam and the invasion of our country by illegals.

Anointed does not mean Messiah, it can be used for anyone God has called to be in any position.

Saul and David were both anointed by God.

For instance I have no doubt God has called one of my daughters to be a teacher. She is not the Messiah.

That’s actually not a bad analogy, Donald Trump to Winston Churchill.

Churchill himself was considered by his contemporaries and his political foes as a bit rude and vulgar.

The difference is Churchill loved his brandy and Donald Trump is a teetotaler.

“He has all the virtues I dislike and none of the vices I admire.” - Winston Churchill

“A modest little person, with much to be modest about.” - Winston Churchill (Regarding Attlee)

“An empty taxi arrived at 10 Downing Street, and when the door was opened, Attlee got out.” - Winston Churchill

“Attlee is a very modest man. And with reason.” - Winston Churchill

How will you ever get Trump messages out then? This site used to be about substance it is now an echo chamber for trumpeteers. We used to be able to disagree about things without the name calling.

Now we are getting calls to silence anyone who doesn’t share your belief that Trump is actually conservative.

I do not hear specifics from him. Just we will make that great. He has never shown he will fight for anything. He talks about things but will he actually even attempt to deliver or was the talk just part of sealing the deal. Trump fans believe he is genuine. But many people do not think he is genuine. We think he is just saying what he thinks we want to hear. So we do not trust him.

Then some of the Trump fans on here do not help his cause any by being some of the most obnoxious people. But they take that cue from Trump himself. Can’t debate your point attack the person instead. This is the huge difference between he and Reagan.

Trump fans just can’t grasp there are serious concerns about Trump being genuine. When those get pointed out his supporters attack the person not the substance.
