The Obama administration released a warning Monday telling the nation’s landlords that it may be discriminatory for them to refuse to rent to those with criminal records.
The Fair Housing Act doesn’t include criminals as a protected class, but the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) says refusing to rent based on a criminal record is a form of racial discrimination, due to racial imbalances in the U.S. justice system.
For instance, while blacks are about 12 percent of the U.S. population, they are about 36 percent of the prison population. Hispanics are also overrepresented behind bars, though to a much smaller degree.
HUD says that landlords may be allowed to bar those with criminal records from living in a facility, but they will have to prove that such a policy is necessary for protecting the safety of other tenants, and designed to avoid illegal discrimination. The new guidance recommends that landlords consider factors such as the severity of the criminal history and how long ago it occurred.
The new guidance isn’t the first move by the Obama administration to break down perceived racial barriers in the housing market. HUD launched an effort in 2015 to encourage cities to use Section 8 and other levels to create racially-integrated neighborhoods. The effort came in the wake of a Supreme Court ruling that policies which result in unintentional housing discrimination may be targeted in lawsuits.

No. But big city landlords who voted for obummer will get what they deserve.
Since I think this will be a bigger issue in the cities that obummer did so well in, I wish the landlord and the tenants good luck.

I was going to make the comment that ‘criminal’ is not a race, but apparently the current mis-administration is overtly making the case that crime is the purview of a certain race.
For the record, I disagree; while a disproportionate ratio of crimes are committed by one race, still the vast majority of that population are not criminals!

this is what I hate about liberalism. one is not allowed to make value judgments. one should always be allowed to discriminate on behavior. there are a few things that I believe as a Christin1.
1. I am called to be my brothers keeper
2. I am called to make value judgments
3 I am to try and take all actions with love in my hart.
everyone else can make judgment of me I invite them.
not allowing someone to say no to someone with a criminal record renting from them will actually increase homelessness among the poor because there will be les people willing to rent to the low end renters out of fear that that they will be forced to rent to someone that is undesirable because of being still active in criminal activite.

Yes it’s true what you post, BUT the point is the Left knowing exactly what they are doing displays just how nuts they are.
