Earl Hamner Jr., the versatile and prolific writer who drew upon his Depression-era upbringing in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia to create one of television's most beloved family shows, "The Waltons," has died at age 92.
Hamner's friend Ray Castro Jr., who produced a documentary about Hamner, says the writer died Thursday in Los Angeles and had recently been battling pneumonia.
Although best remembered for "The Waltons," which aired for nine seasons and won more than a dozen Emmys, that show barely scratched the surface of Hamner's literary accomplishments.
He was a best-selling novelist ("Spencer's Mountain"), the author of eight episodes of the classic 1960s TV show "The Twilight Zone".

I remember a few episodes and moments fondly. There was one where one of the boys composed “the ironing board blues” in honor of his grandma, for example.

homosexuality in hollyweird is nothing new. Rudolfh Valentino was a flamer, only the studio kept it “hush hush” and had him marry a major lesbian actress Jean Acker. The two spent their honeymoon separate from each other. Back then it was kept all under raps. Now they are telling this to make it seem “normal”
I read it somewhere. The rumor is out there. Unlike with Geer I can’t find any details. Can’t say whether it’s true of not.
“The Homecoming-A Christmas Story” is a wonderful Christmas movie. I watch it every year. Well-written, perfectly cast with a New Yorker believably playing John Boy.
Oh, I know that. But Geer was a bit more prominent about it. Although he was married to actress Herta Ware and they did have an actress daughter, Ellen Geer.
