Why Donald Trump Is Poised To Win The Nomination And Lose The General Election, In One Poll By Philip Bump March 23

Not to get too far ahead of ourselves, but a new poll from Quinnipiac University suggests that the most likely outcome of this presidential race is the following: Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump face off in the general election, and Hillary Clinton wins. Standard polling caveats apply, not the least of which is that the campaign hasn't started and that polls taken well in advance of an actual election are often not predictive. But reading this poll on this day with these numbers? That's the logical conclusion.

These same geniuses were saying six months ago there was NO WAY Trump would win the nomination.

Either Ted Cruz or Donald Trump will stomp a mud hole in Hillary Clinton. People have to be on drugs to think that witch has the slightest chance of winning.

I prefer Cruz, but if Trump gets the nomination, I believe he will win with the largest landslide election in US History.

Cruz would win also, but not by as great of a margin.

Cruz can’t beat Trump but he can beat Hillary, which Trump cannot do. Go figure.

Anybody can beat Hillary. These polls are just nonsense at this point.

Fine. Let the People decide.

I guess we're lucky that Reagan didn't suspend his campaign at this point in 1980 when he was trailing Carter by 30 points.

Polls like this (push polls, 7 months out from an election) exist solely for propaganda purposes.

People who tout them know this and are simply dutifully spreading propaganda in furtherance of their agenda.

The polling has been quite consistent on this. Trump will lose to Clinton because he has the highest negatives in the field and is anathema to the independents. He has also alienated a lot of the Republican base with his dog at the fire hydrant behavior. He won’t get them all back. This is not news, folks. It has been apparent for months to everyone but the Trumpkins, who continue to have their heads buried in the sand.

I think it is worse than that, I think Hillary will beg to be Indicted instead of facing Trump.

Hillary and Dems and Liberals and LaRaza, Soros, know how to cheat, steal elections. Trump better be prepared and have folks at election sites.

There will be tons of missing ballots show up at last minute, then they online voting now in some states, like that can’t be hacked. Radicals own our voting machines, illegals being encouraged to flood the border, getting help to register to vote, etc.

This is my fear...in the end

Not to get too far ahead of ourselves....

Trump will not enter the race.
Trump will be laughed off and quit.
Trump’s ceiling is 20%
Trump will implode any minute now.
Trump won’t win any races.
Trump’s ceiling is 25%
Trump will lose if more people drop out.
Trump will implode any minute now.
Trump needs more establishment support to win.
Trump’s ceiling is 30%
Trump would lose to Hillary.
Trump will implode any minute now.
Trump won’t win in the South.
Trump’s ceiling is 35%
Trump will implode any minute now.
Trump will lose if Rubio drops out.
Trump’s ceiling is 40%
Trump would lose to Hillary.
Trump will implode any minute now.
Trump’s ceiling is 45%
Trump would lose to Hillary.

That about cover the track record on “getting ahead of themselves”?

“No other recent poll shows any numbers close to this.”

You’re right; the Quin poll is actually closer than the others. Most other recent polls have Trump losing by double digits to Hillary. RCP has all the stats.

Polls are questionable. Votes matter. There are dimwits who dismiss primary votes but no one ever won anything based on a poll. The same people that vote is a primary will likely vote in a general.

In just Ohio Hillary got 676,597 votes with one competitor.

Trump got 726,769 votes against a sitting governor and Cruz.

Cruz got only 267,002 votes.

Please explain how Cruz could beat Hillary. Goodness Bernie beat Cruz with 511,903 votes.

I assumed people on this forum learned math prior to common core. Maybe I am wrong about that.
