I have been through several of the Free Republic "Silly Seasons", aka, the Republican presidential primaries. Every one of them is rough, but this is the worst one of all.
I'm guilty of being a dog, but even this dog can learn new tricks. Here is my proposal:
LET NO ONE SPEAK ILL OF ANYONE ELSES CANDIDATE. ONLY POST POSITIVE THINGS ABOUT *YOUR* CANDIDATE.
I think that would just about eliminate the rancor.
We won't get 100% participation. But heck, if we got even a fraction of that, Free Republic would be a lot nicer a place, in this, the worst of all "Silly Seasons".
I pledge to do this. Who else is on board? Chime in!

I think attacks and name calling are one thing but without criticism its just the Sunshine Club. If we aren’t free to call out when we think something is wrong and respond if we think someone is not being factual is it really Free Republic?

Nah, no fun. Let’s just abbreviate the insults.
For example, we could come up with alternative emoticrons or abbreviations for “your guy is a RINO establisment hack”
That way we can get to the meat of a posting much quicker, yet not oppress folks’ innate desire to beat the crap (rhetorically) out of each other based on who they support.

I don’t mind negative comments ABOUT POLICIES. But calling another candidate slimy, sleazy, the biggest liar ever, and various epithets reduces the whole website to a name calling contest. Sorry, but compared to Hillary, none of our candidates deserve that kind of vitriol.
