The Ides of March was the day the Roman Senate betrayed Julius Caesar and stabbed him in the back (literally).

On a historical note. The founding fathers, at least the anti-federalist, considered Brutus a good guy for killing Cesar and preserving the Republic and published under Brutus (most likely Robert Yates) as a pen name.
