Down Memory Lane: What "Conservatives" Said About Palin, 2008
Self | 3/15/2016 | LS

As part of my ongoing Trump campaign biography, I thought it would be interesting to see what so-called "conservatives" had to say about Sarah Palin in 2008. Turns out, it's not much different than what they have said about Trump (i.e., hatred):

Remember how the so-called conservative media treated Sarah Palin in 2008? Charles Krauthammer wrote, “with Palin, the case against Obama evaporates.” Palin’s choice, he claimed, “negates the theme of readiness” to assume the office. Referring to her as a “wing-nut candidate,” Krathammer wrote of Palin’s “inevitable liabilities” due to the fact that any “unvetted neophyte has ‘issues,’” such as “the kid” and the “state trooper investigation.” (By “kid” it is not clear of Krathammer was referring to her handicapped child, Trig, or to her daughter, Bristol. Kathleen Parker piled on, insisting “She’s out of her league.” Palin, Parker wrote, “is a problem . . . . She doesn’t know enough about economics and foreign policy to make Americans comfortable with a President Palin . . . .” Admitting her finger was “poised over the mute button” during a Palin interview, Parker concluded “my cringe reflex is exhausted.” David Kahane of National Review lampooned McCain’s “insane, opportunistic, clueless, out-of-touch and breathtakingly audacious, game changing pick of Sarah Marshall Palin” in a reference to a 2008 movie Forgetting Sarah Marshall.

Byron York, writing a solid defense of Palin’s governorship of Alaska, nevertheless repeated the line that people couldn’t decide if Palin “is incompetent, stupid, unqualified, corrupt, backward, or—or, well, all of the above.” Red State’s Erick Erickson joked that he was starting a “leper colony” for conservatives who criticized Palin.

We need to shed the NeoCons, people. We need to shed them.

I would say: shred.

They all just love to hear themselves talk.

They get to virtue signal for cash, accomplish jack, blame it on the MSM/Democrats/Establishment, and then sell books of them complaining some more.

The conservative establishment’s last desire is to actually win. What will they do for a living at that point?

Given many of the things Palin has done since 2008, its hard not to argue that Palin was not ready for prime time.

Perhaps. But again, it’s like the flamethrowing lefty that comes to the Yankees. A good pitching coach can make Ron Guidry, no attention at all makes a washout. I think she was “coachable.”

I think you missed a few people:
Levin
Limbaugh
Beck (barf)
Goldberg
Etc...

Quite a few conservatives were extremely complimentary of Mrs. Palin.

Of course, they are all villains now because they aren't in the trump bucket.

Handled, nay assisted, in a correct way she would have been able to cope with the Journolists much better already in 2008.

Why wasn’t she given some prime time interviews with FOX News and radio interviews with any conservative radio host to introduce her to the American people? Well, we know why.

Compare her interview with Katie Couric and Biden’s the same year. Who was ready for prime time? (If you don’t remember during his chat with Couric Biden made it obvious that he thought FDR was president in 1929 - or that the Depression started in 1932. He also thought FDR went on television to calm the citizens.) Where was the GOP campaign and attack machine then?

The same day the media started to talk about the cost of “clothing the Palin family” she held an amazing speech about women with support from some leading Democrats. That speech would have been very very dangerous for Obama if it ever had made it to the front pages of the major papers. But someone - guess we know who - sabotaged that play. What did the McCain campaign do? Nothing.

She was smeared from the get go, and that was not her fault. A candidates family, and especially the children, had always been totally off limits. Not for Palin, that grace. Who defended her? Very few as far as I can remember.

They’re hating on my Sarah! A curse on them and a curse on the next ten generations of their descendants, too!

I had the great privilege of going to see Breitbart at a very small conservative conference three weeks before he died. He was NOT one of those who was critical of Sarah Palin. He thought the world of her, had nothing but praise for her achievements and her qualities. He just hated the weasels in the GOP who didn't stick up for her when she needed it, and those from the right that attacked her he thought they were the lowest form of scum on this earth.

Here was what he said (apologies that I didn't write down the quote when I heard it, but this is pretty darn close):

Those on the right who didn't come to the defense of Sarah Palin in 2008 were nothing more than eunuchs. Those who savaged Sarah Palin from the left were animals. Those who savaged her from the right were animals without souls.

I call them the neo-con artists, since these recycled Trotskyites have conned way too many into thinking that they are conservatives, and that never ending war in the Middle East is a “conservative value.”

I liked Palin in 2008, did not think she herself was serious about the 2012 run. But the point is, these so-called “conservatives” NEVER want anyone the public likes. They “know better.”

Hence Trump. I was not on board with Trump, and still am not, but the vehemence of the GOP (a vehemence that is absent in countering Democrats or 0bama) leads me to consider supporting him - enthusiastically, besides.

Sarah’s convention speech knocked it out of the park, and scared the living shit out of the establishment.

Let’s see you handle the full on onslaught that she’s endured - from Friend (supposedly) and Foe alike.
