Dear Trump Supporters
Although I am not particularly enamored with Donald Trump (the ideas Cruz espouses are closer to my own), I absolutely understand and appreciate the dynamic behind Trump's meteoric rise and probable victories in the GOP nomination and the November election. I have posted before on FR about the importance of eradicating the Republican Party, so perhaps Trump is the vehicle for that necessary Schumpeterian creative destruction.
What does fascinate me is the hostility towards Cruz from ostensibly conservative folks who happen to be supporting Trump. I do not really care about the specifics of the animus but note that it approaches a quality that genuinely befuddles me. Having been at FR since the Xlintoon regime I am pretty confident that the hostility heaped on Hellary and Bubba pales in comparison to that currently aimed at Cruz. (I went back and read some random threads from back in the day.)
So here is my genuine question for Trump supporters: what was your attitude towards Cruz a year ago, before the entry of Trump into the race? I recall Cruz being lionized on FR and throughout the conservatosphere for being one of the two or three Senators willing to stand in the way of the Uniparty agenda.

You couple those things (and there are others) with what he did to Carson, his previous support for TPP and H-B1 visa's, and his wife's connection to Goldmann Sachs and it adds up to someone I really don't admire much.
And to top it off Sarah Palin went with Trump. I never would have guessed that. I suspect she knows something about Ted's character that is not too flattering.
I actually supported Cruz before Trump
Yes there are zealots on both sides but you actually hit on the kindle that I think lit the acrimony
Cruz was once pretty much revered here as the Great Alternative
Before Trump came along and acted like Trump does which excites many of us
Therefore the Cruz lovers got super put out that Trump is basically a usurper of Cruz and Cruz speaks more ideological for sure
Then as it plays out professionals from Cruz and Trump start trolling and spamming here and ginning it up
As time goes on Trump rolls on shocking everyone and diverges ever sharply from GOPe and Cruz pretty much stays in second place and gets chummy with donor class and shows his darker side....
Now it’s full panic time or resignation and acceptance for Trump haters but Cruz holds out hope for a contested or brokered convention
So my guess it will only get worse
Trump folks wonder why everyone doesn’t see the magic and Cruz folks wonder do these folks not believe in God like they ought to or they’d see Teds bonafides like they see them
And it all gives Freepers an excuse to act natural which is never good
I agree 100% with everything you’ve said.. The nastiness is terrible, and I have NO idea why they can’t see the hypocrisy on their side (and projection).

You have to be kidding. Cruz bots have consistently questioned our faith, our Christianity, our intelligence and our conservatism. They have been far nastier than the Trump supporters.
His assertion is a common one among those claiming to be Christians, especially among Mainline denominations like Presbyterians.
And I am not voting for a pastor. I do object to politicians who use their proclaimed Christianity to get votes (like Cruz) I pray for Trump’s salvation but his statement doesn’t affect my theology. I see it far too often.
FWIW, I have never actually seen him say that. Just constant reports of it by Cruz supporters.

No we all haven’t. And don’t take Scripture out of context. By their fruits is about false prophets, not political candidates. This is the kind of thing that ticks me off as a theologian.

I never said that. Take a civics class and get back to me when you understand the electoral college.
I was for Cruz. Then Trump showed up with more fire. Cruz went and had a meeting with him and it looked like he decided not to attack Trump while Trump was trashing everyone and everything else. That showed me that I was right in going for the fighter and not Cruz who when it came to fight Trump ....decided to be his friend.
Now Cruz wants to convince us he is a fighter. What did he accomplish in the Senate? A filibuster where he talked to nobody all night? Obamacare....still here. Illegals....still here.

You are close, but your unnatural focus on religiosity is odd and jarring. And voting for someone who ‘excites’ you is how we got Obama, remember that tingle running up and down Chrissy Mathew’s leg.
I get really nervous when I see folks abandon all common sense and start talking like you are. By the way, it isn’t Cruz who is holding out for a brokered convention. Cruz want to wrap this thing up ASAP.
