I took some time away from FR and Im enjoying that time immensely.(it just takes an attitude adjustment).
So off I go.
I considered shutting up and simply leaving but since I have been here a while I figured , Hell I might as well say something and Opuses are somewhat of a tradition..... thus the Opus route won
Final thoughts: A professor I had said if you don't agree on terms you are not communicating
And there is not much agreement on terms anymore. The main term not agreed on is "CONSERVATIVE "

People who gather here now thinK Donald Trump is conservative enough and many people now hate George W Bush for failing to be conservative enough.

since I have been on FR the following has happened....
Bill Clinton and his wife , both lawyers, skirted the law and broke the law in a myriad ways.
And while Freepers (and I) were appalled, most of the American People did not give a damn and continue to embrace them.
Next Al Gore came way too close to being elected President but we celebrated when Bush won
Integrity and honesty were big selling points when GW Bush was voted in. As far as Im concerned GW had them, still has them and the Bush's (now hated en mass) had class, which was a far cry from the previous Clinton years.
Then with 9/11 America (sort of ) woke up and realized that people in the Middle East had declared war on us some time back .....and they were serious.
WE, AMERICA (not just Bush ) then declared war. Overwhelming support was shown by almost all our representatives in Congress.
But after a few years some anti war people convinced Democrats that Bush was stupid and wrong and America should be anti war and they (the Democrats) could take control. It could be just like just like 1968 again
It was smart politics for the Democrats. Donald Trump also was smart enough at the very beginning to know that Bush was stupid and wrong and he is really proud of that. Gradually many more people were convinced of all this (and to my surprise many Freepers joined them).
The end result was the election of Obama
And a lot of Americans have been just fine with that shift, just not me. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Did you know that if you take all the letters in your title, you can spell out the word “rutabaga”?
There are a fair number though. Lots of missing names, but a fair number of old-timers.
I took a few years away too - albeit not out of rebellion or even negativity towards the site. It was a bit of a start at how things had changed though.
I remember some of the grand libertarian/conservative debates and discussions, where like a Federalist Paper at times people defined their beliefs, and recognized that there were different favors of Conservative, but that we were far closer to each other than to the opposition.
Not that there weren’t flame-wars...

Just when Cruz starts winning some states?
George hisself said he was a 'compassionate' conservative, obviously distancing himself from the standard conservative...
In my view Rubio, Romney, McCain and a host of others are not conservative...While a Trump supporter I realize that Cruz is a conservative...I also realize Trump currently is at least as conservative on some issues, more conservative on others and less conservative on even others...But then we all get to chose our own definition of conservative...
Since every Republican out there classifies himself as a conservative the word needs to be thrown away...It doesn't mean anything anymore...I've seen so many arguments on who is and who isn't conservative on these threads it makes my head spin...
Again as I see it, FR was based on the belief in a HISTORIC Constitutional Gov't...That historic gov't would be a pro America gov't...
I an others on FR believe our gov't has walked away from that historic document and practice...We believe Trump wants to get us back there...That's why we can be FReepers and still support Trump...
I don't believe we have taken anything away from the mission of Jim Robertson and Free Republic...
But do as you will...

Sorry to see you go Woofie, but I understand how you feel. I signed up only one day after you, and I no longer recognize this place.
It's been tough lately, and I will confess that certain people on both sides of the schism have been forfeiting an awful lot of respect and credibility by their behavior. Others were never better than that to begin with. It's a big forum, and it hasn't been a family for a very long time, but there's family in it and it hurts to see that part of it broken by the part that really doesn't matter all that much.
Been an honor and a blessing to have you around, FRiend. Go with God, and if your path takes you back here there'll be a key under the mat.
