Donald Trumps distinctive rhetorical style think of a drunk with a bullhorn reading aloud James Joyces Finnegans Wake under water poses an almost insuperable challenge to people whose painful duty is to try to extract clarity from his effusions. For example, last week, during a long stream of semi-consciousness in Fort Worth, this man who as president would nominate members of the federal judiciary vowed to open up libel laws to make it easier to sue to intimidate and punish people who write negative things. Well. Trump, the thin-skinned tough guy, resembles a campus crybaby who has wandered out of his safe space.
Trump is a presidential aspirant who would flunk an eighth-grade civics exam. More than anything Marco Rubio said about Trump in Houston, it was Rubios laughter at Trump that galled the perhaps bogus billionaire. Like all bullies, Trump is a coward, and like all those who feel the need to boast about being strong and tough, he is neither....

Sorry Lou, we are going to finally have a voice again. You and George are on the way out.
It will be a good morning in America again.
The rotten sourpusses who have aided and abetted the last 28 years of treachery can go chew cud.

“Britain manages to retain freedom of speech in the press while making them responsible for accuracy. America can do the same.”
The same Britain that punishes people for “hate” speech like speaking out against Islam or Homosexuality???
No thanks
I agree there may be “a bit of buyer’s remorse”, as you say, when Trump sets up shop at 1600. But I’ll take the bad with the good. He’s our best bet to disembowel Hillary, and he’ll put up a fine cabinet, IMO.
George Will is an elitist douche. Dropping Finnegans Wake in your opening paragraph? Whatever man.
How well have the politicians fought for your rights?
Read my take down of Mr. George Will in my post a few weeks ago here on Free Republic: The Tower of Babble vs. the Tower of Trump George Will has been pulling the wool over our eyes for decades. And now, as we're on the verge of putting in a true Jeff-Sessions-endorsed conservative to come in and clean up Washington, George Will shows his true traitor colors. |
and Rich Lowry,,,
To me, NR sounds like a desperate kid who got caught cheating on his exam and is now hiding in the cloak closet saying he didnt do it.
It breaks my heart that National Review has come down to that. I used to wait for each copy with such anticipation back in the ‘80s. Was a tragic end for such an iconic heirloom.
eGeorge weighs in, well, as much as a bow-tied lightweight CAN weigh in. :)
Jeff Sessions vs George Will
Not a hard choice for me.

“And I find it odd that the principled conservatives here on FR have opted to support a man who is the antithesis of both of those words.’
And what’s even worse is the eagerness they are willing to give up the Constitution and separation of powers.
Although I’m not surprised. In times of national angst, people do
The Albatross of Being Endorsed by George Will
The press don’t get to make up the stories. They need to be held to truthful reporting. For opinion articles they cannot slander.
Why would it be in America’s interest to have a press that suppresses the truths they don’t want us to know and is free to lie to control the narrative? Does Obama spring to mind? For shame. If we want to hold the press to the truth we have something to hide?
Balanced journalism, factually based with the pluses & minuses spelled out is accurate journalism. Nothing says they can’t print something negative, but if they make it up or tell half truths to change the meaning like all those partial quotes then they need to be called out and if egregious enough there need to be consequences. The press are no more angels that the rest of us, without consequences they will not moderate their behavior.
Will is an entitled little pissant. Listening to effete creatures like him got us where we are as an emasculated party.
I didn't notice that it was published in the National eSpew...
He’s like Perot with a bullhorn and a commitment.
You haven’t read the case have you? Because had you, you wouldn’t have posted such an uneducated response. What Trump is saying and what Scalia said are the exact same thing, there are no restraints now, the media has become the 5th column of the government establishment, doing the bidding of the establishment.
Poor George Will, I suppose a lifetime of wedgies will do this to a person.
No matter what one thinks of George Will, that phrase is a work of art.
The Marcel Duchamp of scriveners.
