While in Nashville at the National Religious Broadcasters convention, Steve Deace landed Rafael Cruz as a guest on his show. In keeping with the conventionâs theme, they started talking about religion and its role in politics.
Deace framed his question carefully, asking, âHow in the world does Donald Trump win evangelical voters in South Carolina? What does that say about where weâre at as a church, or does it say anything about where weâre at as a church across the board?â
The question was a great one because Cruzâs son Ted Cruz is running for president and was expected to dominate the Evangelical vote. Trump has somehow ended up doing that in spite of insults to the community and a demonstrated lack of ecclesiastical know-how. Because of this, Cruz was all too ready with his answer:
Well, I think that theyâre defining evangelicals in a very loose manner. If we look at the numbers, those that are people that call themselves born-again Christians that are committed to the lord, we won overwhelmingly among that group. Unfortunately â and this is a message that I have been carrying to America, as you said, for several years â there are too many people in the church that have actually become lax about the word of God, that they are being more concerned with being politically correct than being biblically correct, they have diluted the word of God in order to be palatable to everyone.
Questioning someoneâs faith didnât work well for Pope Francis or for Jeb Bush, but it has been a winning strategy for Trump, so maybe the older Cruz is onto something here. Then again, Trump has already beaten him to that punch, accusing the candidate of phony Evangelism:
Idiotic headlines that have absolutely nothing to do with what the man said.
And even more idiot people who buy into every lying attack put out by the enemies of conservatism.
“Trump does not go around saying that those who don’t vote for him are not Christians.”
Hate to burst your bubble, but Trump questioned whether Cruz, who is of Cuban descent, was really evangelical.
What Cruz’s father said was the term “evangelical” is being loosely defined in the polls. That is simply an observation about the politicization of the term, not about whether someone who voted for Trump is going to be damed to hell, like the lying author claims.
Some fundamentalists have a thing against Catholics particularly the Pope. That story the MSM conjured up about the pope singling out Trump being a non christian may have turned this for Trump within that group.
Here the pope was responding to a question by a reporter. from Reuters news agency.But the pope never mentioned Trumps name in his lengthy reply ,which btw was carried by Limbaugh; It was this; expressed here in abstract;
Where the pope used the term One. To generalize his example and began with; If actually one said ( but Trumps name was inserted here by MSM ) and continued with : one does, one did, one believes : such and such in his response to a rather lenghty question by a so called reporter.. it was meant to be a generalized position applied to anyone who has those views.
Trump responded to what he thought was a direct persomal attack by the Pope responding to the deliberate misquoting of the popes building bridge remark and sticking in Trumps name in it. Done by the media .
Disgust was shared and agreed to by everybody including this Catholic and what they were responding is to Trump in effect telling the pope to go to hell which made the difference.
If some voted that way because of that reason they were mislead by machinations of the media not the pope. Now the media anti religious agenda is busy claiming Cruz error was in appealing by mentioning: marriage, planned parenthood, abortion and the questioning of positions raken by Trump. Which diverts the attention from the media and its involvement while minimizing the Cruz candidacy.
“Rafael Cruz doesnât get the right to say this.
Thereâs only ONE God!”
True, and Trump has stated unequivocally that he is contemptuous of Him. By his own words Trump has declared that he has never done anything needing repentance and reconciliation with God.
That is not my judgement. Those are Trumps words.
In doing so, Trump has declared that he is not a Christian, and is in fact hostile to the basic tenets of Christian faith.
“Some fundamentalists have a thing against Catholics particularly the Pope. “
Yep. I’m neither Evangelical nor Catholic. The Pope was talking about Trump, most obviously, and no he didn’t say his name. However, I think it’s disingenuous to claim he didn’t mean his comments to be about Trump. This Argentine has long since lost the benefit of the doubt.
Cruz senior also meant Trump - he was trying to bully fellow Evangelicals into voting for his son.
The Pope and Cruz Senior are getting their asses handed to them, rightfully so, for pretending they have moral standing and/or God’s blessing to make political comments in an election year.
Next time they talk to God they should apologize.
Well, if we’re going to judge on that level...
Cruz, by allowing himself to be declared an anointed king, is attempting to displace the single anointed king ever since the fulfillment of the Davidic line: Christ himself.
Therefore, by not correcting this, he has allowed himself to put himself in the place of Christ, as Herod did in Acts 12.
Cruz should have been himself, such as it is. Don’t play Rambo, don’t play William Jennings Bryan, don’t do plaid shirts and blue jeans, don’t do Glen Beck, don’t do the loser sweaters. He’s a suit. Be a suit. Speak as a lawyer, not some BS awe, shucks, field preacher fake or flabby tough guy. Be authentic as who and what you are. In Cruz’s case that is a polished, white collar, allegedly top flight jurist. BE THAT. That has credibility. People won’t laugh when someone is functioning within their real sphere of competence.
Recovering from this painfully cornpone, stilted, antiquated campaign will take a while.
“I suspect Christ Himself might not pass muster with some of these folks.”
I’ve attended some churches where He’d better use a KJV if they’re going to listen.
Every nation, tribe, tongue, plus there are 7 churches in Revelation that correspond (?) to the 7fold Spirit of God, imho. Salvation? I am not the Judge and the Judge is also the defense lawyer, so it’s all up to Him. :)
And FYI....Teddy's father is a NUTJOB and Teddy is just a slimy, power and money hungry FRAUD.
