Developer tightens security, no unauthorised personnel allowed
British thrill-seeker James Kingston, who had previously climbed 414-metre Princess Tower in 2014, has climbed the 425-metre Marina 101, but then reaching to the top of the crane at 465 metres.
âMarina 101... This is by far the tallest structure I've climbed so far... I later found out that it's the tallest residential building in the world. Crazy, huh?â he said in a post on youtube.
It took him about an hour and a half to get to the roof of the building using the crane to get up the first 50 meters or so.

âIt was then about an hour of stairs while trying not to die of dehydration. It was the warmest/driest building I've ever come across and I only had a small bottle of water with me,â he said.
âThe crane that runs up the side of the building must be somewhere over the 450 meter mark as the building itself is officially set at 426 meters and the crane arm sits above it by quite a distance. Put it this way... you'd be dead if you fell off the top of the crane and landed on top of the building,â he added.
As he was taking pictures, the crane fired up and things started twisting and moving.
âI had no idea what was going on so I climbed back down to where the crane drivers cabin was to see if I could see anyone. Turns out the crane driver had managed to get up the crane and into the cabin without neither of us seeing each otherâ¦â
The climber made his way up to the tip of the cranes arm.
âIt was pretty steep and was completely covered in grease/dust as it had been there for so many years. It was the slipperiest crane⦠I've ever been on... parts of it were like ice! I finally reached the top and as you can see, the view was incredible,â Kingston said.
A spokesperson for Sheffield Holdings Limited told Emirates 24|7 that they have tightened the security with no unauthorised personnel being allowed to enter the tower.
Its all the same after 50 ft so you might as well go big.
What kind of person climbs a crane with a selfie stick?
Idiot, cares nothing about the preciousness of life.
You’re looking at him.
Imagine how his parents feel.
Yep, if you fall, you’ll be just as dead. That is why I avoid heights.
I will never get the whole “selfie” mentality...
The sort of person who volunteers to get on a ship with Columbus to test his theory the world is round, or someone who applies to be strapped into a rocket to attempt to go into space in 1960
Or a person who falls to their death. perhaps causing significant damage to equipment and structure below them. maybe even hitting a couple people.
Even if its just the fall he would almost certainly traumatize people who saw the event or had to clean up the mess.
465 meters would be over 1,500 feet. Judging by the picture, there’s no way he’s even close to that height. A few hundred feet at best, by my estimation (though still plenty high to kill a moron like him if he fell).
Never mind. Just noticed all the trees and greenery in the photo - obviously not a photo from Dubai.
You can see the curve of the Earth!

A raving narcissist?

I’m thinking more along the lines of someone who ties balloons to a lounge chair and attaches the tether to his truck so he doesn’t fly off.
Not at all the same kind of person. Nothing like those. Also, they all had jobs.
