There must be something about Trump
Vanity

Posted on 02/21/2016 3:21:29 PM PST by NavVet

I'm trying to understand FR's embrace of the Donald, but I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around this one. I too had a favorable first reaction when I heard him talking about building the wall in absolute terms, and his rejection of the concept of amnesty for illegal aliens. I also admired that he was the first politician in a long time that would fight back against the media and left-wing attacks, instead of trying to appease the left. However, that admiration quickly wore off when I researched Trump and found clip after clip of the man, in his own words embracing every liberal talking point in the book. Planned Parenthood, gay marriage, abortion, government health care, protectionist trade policies, increasing taxes on businesses and the most productive. Of course, the man has taken the opposite positions on most of these two. Sometimes he will take both sides of an issue in the same discussion. Also, his "I'm awesome at___________" is wearing a bit thin. I want to hear what you plan to do, not how great you are. Then there is his child like temper, calling anyone he doesn't agree with , Liar, Pu@@Y or worse. Just seems kind of juvenile. The personality quirks I could live with, but a man who praises Nancy Pelosi, John Kerry and Hillary Clinton is another thing. And perhaps most important of all, he has said that his uber liberal sister would be a great Supreme Court Justice. Other than being a recent convert on Immigration this man has no conservative bona fides and yet have of FR acts like you would expect this board to react if Ronald Regan had returned. I just don't get it. If Bernie Sanders starts lobbying for the fair tax and runs for President on the GOP ticket would the Trumpets start feeling the Bern.

You win. You are pure class. Please keep demonstrating that fact for the rest of us.

I want to hear what you plan to do,

We have had nothing but plans from our conservative politicians. What exactly do we have to show for it now ?

I want performance. Elect Trump as President for one term. If he doesn't perform, fire him. If he performs, reelect him.

We have endured endless insults from the Cruz side, along with endless butthurt vanities like this one. Support your candidate. Vote for your candidate.

But when your candidate loses, don’t come here whining. And after this many months, if someone doesn’t understand that the rest of us are tired of being told that the “true conservative” is the way we must vote -again - or we aren’t “conservatives”, expect some return insults.

We know Trump is flawed. They ALL are. But we are willing to take that gamble after over three decades of being lied to by “conservatives” that have latched onto the Bush style of conservatism. Free trade, open borders, and big budgets.

In Sep.15 when he gave an interview for 60 minutes he was a candidate. Are we supposed to forget his liberal positions because he wasn’t a declared candidate. Have his core beliefs changed the day he filed his papers.

“I want Cruz. That’s my guy. That said, Trump echoes the frustration of the voters, and Paul Ryan’s betrayal only made Trump more appealing. Trump is also a lot more nuanced than you give him credit for, but to me every time he b!tch-slaps the press I applaud.”

Ditto.

The Donald.

Sorry, couldn’t resist. Hoping to elicit a response.

From a Weekly Standard article on another thread: “They see their suspension of rationality as the cost of doing business in promoting Trumpism.”

There is nothing to get only something to feel.

Trump also supported TARP, the auto bailouts, and the Obama/Reid/Pelosi “stimulus”

TARP was under the Bush administration. Half the Republicans in Congress supported it too. The bailouts, the spending and even several Republicans defected to give Obama his stimulus plan.

All you people calling Trump a liberal have no credibility. The very reason why he's popular and kicking ass is because people are tired of Republicans sucking their thumbs in the fetal position and caring more about their donors than about the people who make this nation work.

So you believe that Trump is just pretending that he hates to lose and will acquiesce to Cankles as soon as the opportunity presents itself?

Seriously?

Like what, that Nikki Haley is a groveling, PC coward and a Tea Party turncoat on top of that? You mean “stuff” like that?

In some ways, Trump reminds me of Giuliani. He has some positions that are too liberal for me, but he’s a can-do efficient mother f-er who can clean up the streets. Actually wouldn’t be surprised to see Giuliani in a Trump administration.

Yes, exactly. His beliefs change every time he opens his mouth and then gets called out for his lunacy.

Trump has no ground on which to stand in order to ‘take the fight’ to any lib, Hillary or any other. He has already embraced every liberal policy except politically correct speech.

If you don't like trump, don't vote for him and STFU.
I'm not interested in how he behaved as a businessman in 1965 or 1975. Hope you enjoy Hillary or a slick all things to all people smooth talker. Make you choice and take your chances. That's what I'm doing.

The constant jabber about "latinos" is sickening; I am joining Americans for Trump.

Deal with it.

I resent your comment. I am a Cruz supporter, but Trump is a close second for me. I think Trump will be the nominee, and I will happily support his candidacy. A great many Cruz supporters feel the same way.

Your putting all Cruz supporters in some narrowly-defined box is insulting and unseemly.

Only Trump has been heard. Not the grass roots I support Trump, but he is not really a grass roots candidate.
Truly not really. He’s just saying what the grass roots think they want to hear. He’s not a true conservative. Look at his ever changing positions. He’s a big business candidate who supports using big business loopholes. He’s for government interference when it favors him.

You’ve fallen victim to political deception. Trump has no political record except for a voting record of voting Republican every time. HE has no policy. NO political agenda. No bill enactment or sponsorship. He does, as you say, have public comments. Lots of public comments. You could construct any political reality you want by cherry picking statements and ignoring the rest. That’s what’s happening. His STATED political beliefs, policies and promises today ARE conservative. In other words, his core beliefs ARE conservative. You would have to believe he’s lying about everything not to accept what he says. IN the business he was in lying or misrepresentation of a million or a billion dollar deal is actionable. It’s illegal. It’s not in his character to lie as adroitly as a politician. Besides if he’s really a lefty he would have had a much easier time running as dem. Smaller field. Dumber candidates.

It didn’t sound like he was dissing Trump at all. Sounded pretty honest about his question.

Speaking only for myself who used to be a Cruz supporter, I feel that if we don’t secure our borders and get immigration controlled, we’re done. Absolutely finished. I think all the other candidates are all talk. Some might mean well but I think they might just be “too nice” to get the job done.

But that’s just me.
