We had the chance, and we blew it.

It's appearing obvious that Trump will win South Carolina, and logic would tend to indicate that that makes him the odds-on favorite to win the Republican nomination (baring any GOPe dirty tricks at the convention).

While I will gladly vote for Trump over Clinton or Sanders, I'm still disheartened.

Ever since the last day of Reagan's administration, America has been in need of conservative leadership.

GHW Bush's squishiness gave us Clinton.

GW Bush barely won election. I'm glad he was in office after 9/11 instead of Gore, but he loaded us up with tons of debt and a lot of government growth. He also gave us Obama.

McCain was a squish and got his ass handed to him in Obama's first term.

Romney was a squish and got his ass handed to him in Obama's second term. Even Obama was surprised he won that one after the destruction he wrought in his first term.

Now, our chance has come.

On the democrat side, we have a nasty, entitled, corrupt, untrustworthy, unlikable, old hag and a grungy, mooching, old, socialist running for office.

On the republican side, we have a solidly conservative, well spoken, highly informed candidate that isn't afraid to stand up to the GOPe and fight for conservative causes. It's what we ALL have been waiting for.

We've ALL thought that we could win the presidency and right the wrongs of the past few decades of creeping socialism if we would just put a true conservative up as our nominee in the general.

Well, this is our chance. But, we're about to piss it away.

I think I understand the appeal of Trump. People are pissed and Trump has tapped into that. But this is a time for thinking, not feeling. Trump is a demagogue. People want to be on "Team Trump" because he's loud, proud, and unapologetic. But, Trump is also practicing a scorched Earth campaign of character assassination against Cruz in order to win the nomination for himself, and his whipped up supporters are dog-piling on anyone who dares to point out the emperor's lack of clothes.

Two years from now, when we discover that all of the red flags and warnings being blared by Trump's past positions and statements really are an accurate representation of Trump, and we find that "campaign" Trump was just that, we will kick ourselves when we realize that we had our chance, perhaps our last, to nominate the true conservative we had all been waiting for, and we screwed it up.

Turning a blind eye to Trump's liberal leanings just because he says the things we want to hear, and helps us express our dissatisfaction with the status-quo, doesn't make his leanings any less liberal.

We've said that electing a conservative could set us back on the right track.

We have, right now, a chance that we won't have again for a very, very long time. A chance to prove we were right.

But we're about to blow it.

Trump ripped the cover off the Americans people suppressed desire for a nationalist pro American President and political party. Trump is not the end of that movement he is only riding the wave. HE IS NOT A ONE OFF.

The Republican Party is dead, a new Nationalist Party is forming right in front of your eyes and all of this is WAY bigger than just Trump.

Cruz never said “Jesus sent me.” Others said that.

Trump revels in his sin. You join him by justifying it.

Good luck with that.

Right now the RCP averages show that Trump will lose to Clinton 42.5 to 45.3

In 1980, polls this far out showed Carter beating Reagan by 30%.

Long range forecasts in presidential elections are worth less than the electrons they're printed on.

It wasn’t good enough for Carson, so WHY should it be “good enough” for us ?

I didn’t watch all the debates but I like when he called Rubio out in Spanish. Watched Rubio a bit on Hannity. Funny thing, Hannity is 6 foot and Rubio is 5 foot 8. They had them staged to be the same height and a flag was carefully ran behind them so that Rubio looked higher on the striping. No photoshop necessary

Listen... I get it you dislike Trump, campaign rhetoric is high right now(this is the eve of SC after all) but we need some context here...

Trump and Cruz are the only two who are willing to put it all on the line to stop illegal immigration and the Muslim menace. THATS IT.

If we lose both we lose it all folks.

Right now Rick Wilson and the rest of the Rubio shills are on twitter crowing about their boy ‘winning’ tomorrow... NOT A SINGLE VOTE HAS BEEN CAST.

Let me repeat... The Rubio people are celebrating already. A Rubio victory means amnesty, it means a weak hand against the dems, it means more petty BS and a further slide of America into the abyss.

You really didn't know he was born in Canada?

As soon as I saw him filibuster the first time I started vetting him.

One of my Liberal co-workers knew it two years ago. He hated Cruz and feared him that long ago.

Once I was satisfied the question of his eligibility was a non starter I started following him more closely.

I would be willing to bet the subject came up here on FR around the same time.

GoSo we let the team down by picking someone else rather then going with the standard issue professional ivy league lawyer politician who said all the right things in his speeches.

How about we don’t repeat the pattern of the last 30 years and try a different solution in 2016?

Yes Ted’s voice is HORRIBLE, inauthentic at times, and a real put-off to many !

Well sir, that's a fact.

Trumps voice is not irritating.

Just another reason Trumps' electable and cruise is not.

GW Bush was 12 points behind Kerry in 2004 at this point. This “electablity” polling months and monthis in front of an election is an old old lie pimpled by the GOP Establishment to justify why they “had” to nominate Moderate candidates like Dole, McCain and Romney.

That dog isn’t going to hunt any more with GOP voters

Woops, he did it again.

Apparently, Cruz- or, more likely, one of his campaign staff, made a Facebook page- allegedly by Trey Gowdy, saying that he (Gowdy) made a mistake in endorsing Rubio & that he is withdrawing that support, so vote for Cruz instead because he’s endorsing him now.

Gowdy is livid.

Still Report video

It’s a good thing these guys are such delicate little sissies (I don’t mean Trump & Carson), otherwise Felito might pull this crap one time too many & things could come to blows.

Heh. Scenes I’d like to see.

I hear that ad in Minneapolis on the same radio station which carries Rush Limbaugh.

Speaking of Rush, have you heard that Cruz ad with the excerpt from Rush's show, where he went on and on about what a Reagan conservative Ted is?

I don't know how they're using that clip of Rush, unless Rush himself approved it.

It's the very first time I can remember any presidential candidate using a clip of Rush in a campaign ad. It says to me that Rush is tacitly endorsing Cruz for the nomination - something he's always sworn he'd never do.

You have not been paying attention. I have relatives that got the evangelical religion right up there in Iowa... Jesus is to them a personal possession... And Cruz did is best imitation of I am sent by Jesus... Have you listened to his priest father preach his dominion theology? Hey, I am not afraid to check out what people say about Trump... I cannot believe how many of the holy rollers know all about Trump's sex life... It simply does NOT interest me.

Have you read about Cruz's army of 300 pretending to be the culled out by God, imitating the story of Gideon in South Carolina.... Now what weapons did those three hundred use when they went to take down the Midianites? Why it was trumpets.... The story of Gideon can be found in Judges chapter 6, 7, and 8. Have you read the story of Gideon???

This is something I will never understand. Why would anyone sit at home rather than vote for someone who is better than the opposing candidate?

So what if Trump “sounds like a democrat” when it comes to some things? If he DOESN’T sound like a democrat when it comes to national security, building the wall, lowering taxes, etc., etc., why on earth would everyone not give him their vote.

They’d really rather have Bernie Sanders? Hitlery Clinton? I would have to question their love of country. Heck, I would vote for Trump just because he’s not your typical politician/lawyer and has great business sense. I would like to see what he actually can do, rather than watch the opposition destroy my country.

Crap, you're right: except that I don't think it was Rush on his own show, and not during campaign season: I think it was from a few years ago, of Rush being interviewed by some other show: so that other show would have distribution rights.

Interesting point, though.

The apology was for using bad info provided by CNN. Carson also made a mistake, telling them he was headed home to Florida. It’s a wash. Blown up by the usual talking heads.
