A Florida businessman has sued his ex-fiancee alleging that she and her parents conspired to steal $2.1 million in gold, diamonds and other jewelry after their breakup last summer.

Scott Patrick Mitchell of Palm Harbor says his ex took 99 three-diamond necklaces, 147 gold rings and 172 loose diamonds from his vault, according to The Tampa Bay Times.

The ex-fiancee Mary Catherine Hunt is also facing criminal charges of grand theft in Pinellas-Pasco Circuit Court for the alleged heist. Her attorneys have denied the allegations and say more facts will come to light.

She took the pejorative “gold digger” literally, it seems.

Sounds like pretty compelling evidence they have against her, if the article is accurate.

“Surveillance video” this and “recorded calls” that. Tough job getting away with theft these days.

Yeah it’s not like it used to be I imagine. Even at my poorest was too afraid I’d be the one to get caught to even consider going there.

We had an operator who somehow figured out how to get fractions of pennies, from rounding calculations, deposited into an account he had opened up for himself. Would have gotten away with it but the teller he went to knew who he was and when she saw his balance became suspicious. How could an operator have this kind of savings?

The savings & loan didn't want it to get out that this had happened, so they just let him go, but warned him not to use them as a reference.

It amazed me how quickly those rounding fractions mounted up. I was a programmer, and I didn't even want to investigate how he had accomplished it. Because I just knew they would prosecute me to the fullest extent of the law, if I tried it.

Enterprising young woman.

It’ll be difficult to determine her guilt or innocence without her picture.

Computer programmer Gus Gorman (Richard Pryor) is hired by financial tycoon Ross Webster (Robert Vaughn) to seize control of a weather satellite and annihilate Colombia's coffee crop. When Superman (Christopher Reeve) manages to thwart the plan, Webster commands Gorman to use the satellite to locate kryptonite, the Man of Steel's mortal weakness. But a missing unknown element in the kryptonite -- replaced by Gorman with tar -- causes an unintended side effect when presented to Superman.

I guess not, perhaps another movie. It would have been around that timeframe though.

The guy will be in trouble with the IRS if he cannot prove how he obtained the jewels. Did he pay taxes on them or hiding from the taxman?

Actually, Pryor’s character does this and that’s what makes Vaughn take notice of his criminal talents.
