They actually go the history right this time at least how Kunta was captured to be shipped across the Atlantic. In the original it was whites but this version actually shows it was fellow Africans from another tribe who do the initial dirty work for the slavers.

Yeah.....all the self pitying ferals need is another visitation of a horrible period of colonial and early American history that ended 150 years ago.
It's time to show stories about how all Americans can pull themselves up by their bootstraps to make something of themselves and be responsible to their families and their communities.

features an all-star cast including Forest Whitaker, Anika Noni Rose, Anna Paquin and Jonathan Rhys Meyers.
Forest Whitaker is an excellent actor. I'm usually not a fan of remakes but his involvement gives some assurance of quality.

Might I also recommend the video presentation of “The First Rosa” at LCMS.org.
The story of Rosa Young, a black girl growing up in the South that finds the gifts of God through the evangelists of the Lutheran Church (Missouri).
I have a 1st edition of her book “Light in the Dark Belt” and I look forward to viewing the coming video production. She is the reason behind Concordia Selma (a topic for a different day...)

Looks like it might be worth watching. But since I don’t have cable I’ll have to wait until it comes out on DVD.

Looks pretty interesting. Faults and all, I actually really like the original miniseries. Ultimately, it’s storytelling, and it was well done. I know some people get up in arms about historical accuracy, but when I watch a movie, I don’t take it as gospel truth, regardless of if it’s “based on a true story” or not. Roots isn’t any more or less of a documentary than Gangs of New York, but both make for good entertainment.

Just in time for ... Memorial Day!
Just in time for ... getting the black vote energized before the conventions and elections, to get the nominations and choreographed media and front magazine photographs ALLLLL through October and November.

That’s nice, but do we really need a remake? Because as I see it, the remake will just give blacks more motivation to “kill whitey” while also giving white liberals another reason for continued self-flagulation.

Every school child will be required to watch over and over along with the “Obama’s first date” “Roots” and “Salem.\” Gotta keep the “white privilege” meme going.

It’s been many years since I read the book, but I don’t recall anything in there about Kunta Kinte’s descendants fighting on the side of the Union during the civil war. A little revisionism going on here?

I am betting that “Kunte Kinte” was a slaver who himself was sold. In those days he either killed or captured other villagers. He just got caught that time.
To: C19fan
More fraudulent “history” done over by Hollywood to further the Negro as victim. Alex Haley was a fraud; his novel was also a fraud (but it was sold as real). “Roots” need to be buried and not regurgitated for a bunch of gullible viewers. I guarantee it won't be on my “bucket list” of things to do.

Forest Whitaker will be in it.
No thanks.
In spite of his Oscar win he’s a mediocre actor.
