The first trailer for the remake of Roots was released on Thursday, promising all of the drama and heartbreak that captivated audiences nearly thirty years ago. The History Channel's remake of the 1977 miniseries, based on Alex Haley's novel of the same name, is due out on Memorial Day and features an all-star cast including Forest Whitaker, Anika Noni Rose, Anna Paquin and Jonathan Rhys Meyers. Roots follows the struggles of one African American family told over several generations, starting with Kunte Kinte, an African warrior sold into slavery, through to his great-grandchildren fighting for their freedom during the Civil War.

Just in time for ... Memorial Day!
Just in time for ... getting the black vote energized before the conventions and elections, to get the nominations and choreographed media and front magazine photographs ALLLLL through October and November.
Yeah, boo OJ for sure, but I do like LeVar Burton.
That’s nice, but do we really need a remake? Because as I see it, the remake will just give blacks more motivation to “kill whitey” while also giving white liberals another reason for continued self-flagulation.
Or just Muslims, period. I wonder how all the American blacks who converted to Islam because "it's a black man's religion" would feel if they knew the true story of Muslims and slavery.
Mideast Muslims kidnapped or bought a lot more black slaves from Africa than slavers from other countries. And they usually castrated their male slaves so they couldn't breed in captivity. Hence, the need to keep on importing slaves to keep their numbers going.
Every school child will be required to watch over and over along with the “Obama’s first date” “Roots” and “Salem.\” Gotta keep the “white privilege” meme going.
It’s been many years since I read the book, but I don’t recall anything in there about Kunta Kinte’s descendants fighting on the side of the Union during the civil war. A little revisionism going on here?
I am betting that “Kunte Kinte” was a slaver who himself was sold. In those days he either killed or captured other villagers. He just got caught that time.
Good grief! When will it ever end. This forever victimhood in the hood makes my head want to explode.
It will end in fire and blood when the ferals decide to kill whitey in large numbers, and whitey kills a whole lot of them.
Did you know Kunte Kinte had a sister who was a prostitute?
Her name was Renta K——e
Forest Whitaker will be in it.
No thanks.
In spite of his Oscar win he’s a mediocre actor.
,
I’m not a fan but he was good in “The Last King of Scotland” (actually portraying a black psycho responsible for killing many thousands of other blacks).
Note to future generations: Never leave your obsolete farm tools lying around.
I hate blind guys.
I saw “The Last King of Scotland”-—about Idi Amin, who was a real loony tune..
It’s probably the best thing he has done.
.
I thought he did it well - and I’m not a fan of his.
Amin was a whacko; unfortunately he was able to die peacefully in exile years after his atrocities.
Alex Haley ping
“We dubbed her, âKunta Kitty.â”

That is VERY funny !
.
No Geordie LaForge? Eff it then.
Forest Whitaker overacts, he’s the Black Vincent D’Onfrio.
