DO NOT VOTE ON THIS THREAD.

This is the nightly DISCUSSION thread for the ongoing 2016 Free Republic Caucus. Per caucus rules, no comments are allowed on the caucus thread itself - hence this open chat thread.

If you'd like to vote in the caucus, please look in the sidebar for the link, or check downthread here.

Thanks, and let 'er rip!

Windy

Thanks, Windflier.

Logged off early last night and missed the thread.

Not complaining, and maybe I don’t understand how it’s supposed to work, but clicking on the “Results” link brings up a 404 page and none of the links there work either. The only way I can get to the results page is by manually editing the “Results” link to the previous day.

Fabulous job on both the FR Caucus and discussion threads. Needs its own link on the forum header. Hope to see this a regular feature during POTUS election years.

Thank you DWare.

The discussion thread was WindFlier’s idea, and I think it was a good one.

The results link won’t work for about 30 minutes after the previous day’s caucus closes.

It takes a few minutes to tabulate the vote and then create the graphics.

I generally ask for 30 minute. One night I ran into trouble and it took about 34 minutes. Tonight it was 22 minutes.

That there's a question for Doughty. He'll get with you shortly.

I wish that more people would vote. I don’t understand WHY the voting numbers have fallen so much, so steadily, since this was first begun.

Yep, there’s definitely a trend for Trump around here.

Yep, agree. It’s pretty easy to see a cycle with the caucus/primary dates. Of the two, both Trump and Cruz have had a victory. It seems that when a preferred candidate doesn’t come in first, their supporters take a break from the the internet to lick their wounds, and then gradually get back to normal-ish equilibrium.

Fun to see in chart form.

Where are the results? I’ve voted most days, but never seen a vote count.

Toward the bottom of the first post there’s a result link for the previous day, that usually starts working around 12:30am EST.

One aspect I find quite fascinating is the diverging trend, which puts Trump about 30% above Cruz, even though they started out quite close together. That’s about double the 15% or so margin we see in the national polls, even though I would think that FReepers, being engaged in politics, are not “last minute” deciders.
