Man drives 1,700 miles to retrieve his lost-and-found cat
A cat named Hemi is back with his owner, who drove 1,700 miles from North Dakota to retrieve his lost-and-found pet.
Multiple media outlets report Robert Connell drove from Bismarck to the Craven County, North Carolina, animal shelter to pick up Hemi on Monday.
Connell says he decided to make the drive after the winter storm nixed plans for a family friend to fly Hemi to Bismarck.
Connell served as a Marine, and he says Hemi helped him cope with post-traumatic stress disorder.
Robert and his wife lived in North Carolina when they found Hemi in 2009. Hemi disappeared in 2011 when Robert deployed.
The family later moved to Bismarck when Robert got a new job.
Hemi turned up last week, and a microchip enabled officials to find the Connells.
I would probably drive that 1,700 miles to get my cat back, yes.
Cats are a dime a dozen. Sorry to offend, but true. We’ve lost a few over the years to coyotes. You feel bummed out for a few days then just get another one.
Wasn’t this the cat that got stuck on a semi? Sometimes things happen for a reason. Perhaps the owner always wanted to take a trip, the cat gave him a reason.
Retrieve, yes I’d drive that far.
I wouldn’t walk 2 feet.
As far as I’m concerned, cat are good for one thing, and I don’t have a barn for them to keep mice and rats out of.
like the guy said, his buddy helped him get though PTSD.
i was home over 5 years with a head injury alone most of the times except for my little buddy, or i might not be here.
i’d break the neck of ANY human that hurt my cat purposely.
Spaghetti? yeah, I’d drive 1500 miles.
most humans i know are a dime a dozen.
full disclosure: never gave cats a thought either way before I had the little guy.
That’s a really mean post. If you think you’re clever or funny, you’re wrong.
My dog ate it!
My large Maine Coon cat, Olivia goes with me post divorce. Non-negotiable.
I would drive to the moon for my kittehs. And they are mischievous enough to find a way to get there.
Oh no!
Someone said a mean thing about cats!
STOP THE PRESSES!!!!
Anybody that lets their cats get eaten by coyotes shouldn’t be allowed to have pets. You’re negligent and should feel shame.
Why cat haters have to get on kitty threads to make snarky stupid comments is beyond me. DU Trolls maybe?
What do you suggest? Perhaps hang a sign on the cat saying, “Off limits to Coyotes”. I take it that you don’t live in the country.
Ok
If you’re in a coyote zone don’t let your cats be outdoors. I don’t live in the country but I do live a pro-QB pass away from a dry river, part of what locals call the “coyote highway”, and we keep our cats indoors. Indoor cats live longer, healthier, less expensive lives.
The end of my driveway...
And, really, I love my cat to pieces...
I watched as I had a kitten nabbed by a hawk from my suburban backyard. Didn’t tell the wife.
Life is what it is...
