Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S7 will reportedly deliver with a new feature called “Vivid Photo,” which will be a clone of the Live Photos function on iPhone 6s, allowing users to shoot images that come alive when they are pressed.
We already know that Samsung is planning to rip off Apple’s new 3D Touch feature for its latest Galaxy smartphones. Normally we’d be annoyed with the South Korean company for copying more of Apple’s moves, but Force Touch is so good, we want to see it everywhere.
Now Android Geeks reports that Samsung will steal Live Photos, too: “According to one of our sources the software engineers of the South Korean phone maker are testing a Live Photos-like feature that is supposed to debut with the Galaxy S7 later this year,” reads the report.
It’s not totally clear what the feature will be called — Samsung is said to be toying with “Timeless Photo” and “Vivid Photo,” but it seems the latter is the favorite. It’s also unclear if this feature will be ready for the Galaxy S7’s launch, or if it will be added with a software update.
“Unlike Apple's Live Photos, the Vivid Photo feature from Samsung won't capture sound with the photo,” adds Android Geeks. “By ditching sound capture, Samsung will allow users to share Vivid Photos directly to Facebook as GIFs.”
You might argue that Samsung was the first to bring photos to life with its Sound & Shot feature, which has allowed users to capture sound with their photos for a couple of years. But it’s not quite on par with Live Photos, which actually allows them to move.
The Galaxy S7 is also expected to offer Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 820 chip — which it will also manufacture — plus 4GB of RAM, a new 12-megapixel rear-facing camera, and expandable storage. Recent reports have claimed it will be unveiled at MWC on February 21.

I’m thinking of making the Galaxy 7 my next phone.
So tell me....why is this available on my galaxy 4s ?
Me too. I have an S4. 5 and 6 didn’t impress me but 7 will have advanced enough for me to buy a new one, especially since there’s no way in Hell that I’m buying anything from Apple.
Looks like they are both stealing the idea of live photos since this has been on both Apple and Android for years as part of an app that lets you post to facebook and other social media.
The 3D touch, now that’s a real steal.
It is interesting that the S7 will apparently have as much RAM as my entire desktop I am writing this on... (4 GB)
Looks like the cagey Koreans will be surpassing the Apple boytoys. Say sayonara to AAPL
And Apple will rip off Samsung’s wireless charging feature.
Round and round we go.

Apparently, my new Android 5.0? Alcatel Idol 3 with the Camera MX app can do this in non 3D. I will try it on our next trip to the beach.
All those Koreans know how to do is copy what Americans create, just like the Chinese before them. Instead of stealing like criminals, why not license the feature from Apple? Samsung is rolling in dough, stealing ideas cheaply, from not having to do the research that Apple has done.
Eh, I’m not fussed. The vendors all steal the best ideas from each other. It’s how the whole market evolves.
Wireless charging has been around for decades, nothing intrinsic to Samsung. How do you think transformers work to step voltages up or down? Lots of devices use wireless charging, including the iWatch.
True. However, Apple wasn’t the first to bring wireless charging to smart phones.
Palm brought the first one in 2009. Then Nokia stole it from Palm. Then Google stole it from Nokia. Then Samsung stole it from Google.
Note the word “steal”. Everyone borrows ideas from everyone else. It’s called competition. Round and round we go.
You’re missing the big picture here. It’s one thing to borrow an idea, it’s another to simply steal the code and hardware. No one stole wireless charging, there isn’t a protected patent involved here. Samsung makes it a routine operating procedure to steal code and hardware from Apple, that’s why they got sued by Apple and had to pay millions in damages.
