This is the most upset I’ve been about an actor dying since Robin Williams. I grew up watching Alan Rickman.

OMG I’m very confused because had not heard he died. We love Alan Rickman, what a great actor on so many levels. Seemed like a nice man as well. He was a tremendous Snape, a breakthrough villain in Die Hard, excellent in Something God Made, many many other roles.

Wasn’t Rickman involved in some anti-Israel stage work?

Colonel Brandon in Sense and Sensibility, gallant and strong and terribly sad. This was the first character that I thought of when I heard this morning of his death. One of my favorites. My first memory of Alan Rickman was in a Masterpiece Theater production The Barchester Chronicles where he played the "odious Mr. Slope".

I remember him best as Elliot Marston, would-be Australian cowboy gunslinger in Quigley Down Under.
Man, he could play a nasty unlikable villain.
When did he die? Have seen nothing about it.

If you haven't seen Love Actually then you are probably a Star Wars fan or something. if not, you are missing out. High on my list of Top 10 All Time Great Movies.

This makes me sad, I could have listened to him reading the names in the phone book and been fascinated. He had ‘the voice’ and used it well. Loved his work, he was so convincing no matter what part he played. Too bad he was so very mistaken in his politics.

He played a good villain in "Quigley Down Under".

I had a cab driver in Kuala Lumpur tell me I looked like the guy in Die Hard.
It confused me 'cause I don't look anything like Bruce Willis.
RIP...

I was an actor onceMy favorite performance of his was Dr. Lazarus in Galaxy Quest. Not only was it funny, the actors had complex parts with a lot of depth, actually playing three distinct roles. This was a complex performance and he did it perfectly.

No. I liked his work and I'll miss the guy but he wasn't that good as a leading man. Actors who have a lot going on usually aren't at their best in romantic roles, and he always seemed a little to irritable or irritated to play those roles. And who wouldn't be irritated to be in
Love, Actually?
About the politics: he got along well with Bruce Willis. Like Werner Klemperer and Bob Crane, they were able to see past their politics.

FWIW: I didn't see his Rasputin. Could be awful or pretty good or so bad it's good.
