Trump Not '100 Percent' On Muslim Ban
The Hill ^ | 1/13/2016 | Mark Hensch

Posted on 01/13/2016 11:53:50 AM PST by conservativejoy

Donald Trump said late Tuesday that he would compromise on his call for banning foreign Muslims from coming to the U.S. under the right circumstances.

"I'm not saying there can't be some give and take," he said aboard his personal jet that evening, according to The Washington Examiner.

"You look at the radical Islamic terrorism and you look at what's going on, we have to take a serious look," Trump continued. "There's tremendous hatred. "It doesn't mean I'm hard and fast 100 percent, but we have to get a lot of what I'm asking for, or we're not going to have a country anymore," the GOP presidential front-runner added.

Trump argued that his past business experience makes him capable of flexibility on other issues as well, including illegal immigration.

"They are very strong positions, and I would adhere to those positions very strongly," he said.

"That doesn't mean that at some point we won't talk a little bit about some negotiation," the real estate mogul added. "Who wouldn't do that?"

Trump additionally expressed confidence in beating any potential Democratic presidential nominee next November.

"I've really had my mind set on Hillary," he said, referencing Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton.

"I think Sanders would be easier to beat," Trump continued, alluding to Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.).

"I think I'll beat Hillary. It makes no difference to me whatsoever. I look forward to running against whoever it is."

Trump began calling for a temporary halt on Muslim immigration into the U.S. last year. He has since repeatedly defended the measure as necessary for preventing radical Islamic terrorism.

The businessman's suggestion has sparked criticism from both Democrats and Republicans, who say it is discriminatory.

He nonetheless remains the GOP front-runner by 16 points nationwide, according to the latest RealClearPolitics average of polls.

I knew he would do this.
I called at a couple of weeks ago.
He is “negotiating”.
It is what he does.

I think he is just clarifying what he first said that the media twisted. In other words, he’s consistent but has to do damage control because of a dishonest media.

Donald Trump said late Tuesday that he would compromise on his call for banning foreign Muslims from coming to the U.S. under the right circumstances.

Judging from Trump's always changing positions on everything, is there anything he will not compromise on "under the right circumstances"?

“They are very strong positions, and I would adhere to those positions very strongly,” he said. “

So let me see if I get this from the Cruz people.

The position they all said was unconstitutional and were rubbing their hands with glee because they hoped this would be the end of him. The position that Cruz said was “not his”, is the one they are now trying to pretend that “oh he doesn’t really believe in that” as some goofy attempt to....what again?

Yes he is going to push the issue, but he deals with congress, so there will be give and take.

Just like when Cruz boasts he is going to do XY and Z, and you guys just assume that he is just going to pass it through congress with no give and take because....reasons?

If he gets 90% of this, that is STILL 90% more than Cruz’s plan of not even trying.

Look at it this way, I would prefer that not one more Muslim come to the USA. So Trump says what I think was common sense. He expressed his opinion clearly an succinctly. Has Cruz? Did he come out with a position anywhere near what Trump did on Muslim immigration? So if Trump walks back a few baby steps, which I do not agree with him doing that, he is still WAY out in front of everyone else.

ooh, ooh, ooh, pick me, pick me! I know the answer!

The answer is NO, there is nothing he won’t compromise because he has no principles because he has no character. He’s a charlatan of the first order!

Told you I knew the answer.

Trump could be married to a Muslim before the year is up.

Trump could be married to a Muslim before the year is up.

And his supporters would defend him, for "trying to get closer to the enemy" or something like that.

We guys? Trump’s manner of speech (strong positions strongly) sounds rather like GW’s: “We’re working hard, really hard... hardly...” What a statesman!

Oh, and for the record, putting a moratorium on immigration from Islamic countries is not unconstitutional. Cruz never said it was and - obviously - Trump didn’t mean it anyway.

“I’m not saying there can’t be some give and take,”

Just reading the above you have to wonder who we are talking about, Trump or Paul Ryan. John McCain, maybe?
