Due to really bad family dysfunction I'm staying at my apartment alone on Christmas. It's the most difficult thing one can do. You just never, ever adjust to it.
I did.
:-)
One year long ago I was going to be alone on Christmas. I went in advance and signed up to volunteer at a children’s hospital. It was one of the most rewarding things ever. These days security should be tighter; so I recommend volunteering at a veteran’s or military hospital. Bring books or magazines, DVDs, factory-packaged cookies, or just yourself and ask how you can help.
God bless you and a Merry Christmas is my prayer for all, whatever form it takes.
Well, part of not being helpless is asking for help and getting it... (duh)
I spent 4 consecutive Christmases either in a barracks or in the field, I was never actually alone but it felt like it at times.
Have loved that cartoon.
This is the first year in 10 that I am not working Christmas.
Driving the long ride to work Christmas, I never took the pike but instead, drove the back roads and saw house after house with its Christmas Tree lit and knew that there were happy people enjoying their tree, stockings and presents. And I prayed for each one as I drove by, and remembered my own children when they were young under our own tree.
With Christmas music on the radio and me craning my neck looking for the next lit tree and house, it was a lovely ride.
Come to think of it, I did attend the kids’ play on Christmas Eve. My solitary Christmas was one of my nicest.
Thanks, Mr. Moose! Have a blessed Christmas, All!
Thanks for the beautiful post! Merry Christmas!
You will not be alone here on FR. There are always people on here. I love FR at Christmas. People drop in to get away from their families, people are here because they don’t have families, or some of us don’t even have a holiday that day. It’s a day to feel lonely but you don’t here on FR.
Hugs and Merry Christmas and may you have better ones in the future.

You don't find it odd that someone signs up and immediately posts a "poor poor lonely me" vanity?
Or that they use their lament as a screen name?
Color me suspicious.
Some of the most peaceful moments I’ve ever spent have been in the horse barn, after they’ve had their grain and hay, and nestled down to rest for a little while.
I miss the sounds and smells of horses very much.
Take a cut-up peach to the barn some day, and share it. That horse will be your friend forever. I once had one rest his head on my shoulder for an hour, hoping there were more peaches ;-)

Berlin said, “A puppy needs you.”
I have to tell you that is a great piece of advice. Some years ago I broke it off with my abusive and drama filled family and quite honestly, I found that all of my holidays were much more enjoyable. Then I adopted Buford the Coonhound and have met a lot of my neighbors. Now I get invites to many homes for Christmas, as well as other holidays.
Then, even on the days where I want to be alone, I am not really alone. I just get to spend it with something that loves me unconditionally.....
So, if you are willing and able, you might want to look into rescuing a dog of one kind or another. I’m sure that many folks would be willing to help you find the breed that fits your lifestyle.
Cute video, thanks for sharing.
