NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- New Orleans is poised to make a sweeping break with its Confederate past as city leaders decide whether to remove prominent monuments from some of its busiest streets.

With support from Mayor Mitch Landrieu, a majority on the City Council appears ready to take down four monuments, including a towering statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee. Their ordinance has sparked passionate responses for and against these symbols, and both sides will get one more say at a special council meeting before Thursday's vote.

How I despise liberals and liberalism.

It takes no intelligent thought whatsoever to be a liberal, only emotionally charged self-righteousness.

Haven’t you heard? The War Between the States didn’t happen. I don’t know how they’re going to keep blaming the Confederate battle flag for attacks in the future.

This stuff is all a bunch of horse shit. And my Great Grandfather and all my kinfolk fought for the North. Re-writing history. Even National Cemeteries no longer to place Confederate Flags on graves of long dead Soldiers of the Confederacy. And absolute disgrace.

I just want to RALPH on the ACLUseless and all their types.

Jackson Square will be renamed Rainbow Roost. And Le Vieux Carre is ageist, so it should be Ville d'age mur.

Why don’t the people of New Orleans consider removing the politicians that consider removing those monuments?

Whatever party they may be.

There comes a time when folks have to step up and draw a line.

City is overrun with crime, corruption, and debt. What are they worrying about? A statue.

If they are turning their backs on their history then raze the French Quarter since the French owned slaves and were much worse slaveholders than the colonists.

If you are going to wipe it out, wipe it all out.

Righto, and I really think that this movement is less about the Confederate flag and more about tearing down EVERYTHING American and Americana.

Why don’t the people of New Orleans consider removing the politicians that consider removing those monuments?

Probably because a majority of the voters of New Orleans do not give a damn what the politicans do as long as they keep the freebies flowing. Just give us free food, free medical, free housing, and free utilities and we do not care about anything else. We will spend our free money on drugs, sex, and alcohol. Anything else we want, we will beat the hell out of Whitey and take it from him/her. What is so cool about that is , we beat the hell out of him, take his car, money, and what ever else he has we want and we rape her, as we leave, they are shaking their heads wondering, "What did we do to them to make them so angry with us." and "What did we do to make them hate us."

Man Oh Man!!! I am conflicted! My paternal G-G-Grandfather Fought for the Union! (He was from the South, BTW!)
My maternal G-G-Grandfather fought for the Confederacy!
I guess I have to 'root' for both sides!

Of course it is.

The Confederacy is part of OUR past, our heritage, and our People. It’s American. To the left, it’s a wedge issue to divide blacks and whites.

To those spineless cowards that cave in to the left, it’s a chance to gain favor by licking the boot so it won’t kick them - but it will, eventually. Because no one trusts someone who betrays their own people.

Those boys in Grey were Americans, as much as the boys in Blue.

We have to defend our history, at every cost. And remove from authority those who are too cowardly to do so.

Louisiana Desecration of a Grave statute

Problem is it is OK if “authorized”

These Barbarians will definitely authorize their barbarity

Jindal has to stop it
