Patriarch: Catholics and Russian Orthodox uphold âthe same Gospel valuesâ
December 04, 2015
The head of the Russian Orthodox Church met with two Catholic priests on December 2 and expressed appreciation for the work of the Catholic Church in Italy.
Patriarch Kirill told the prior and administrator of Basilica of St. Nicholas in Bari that âBari is a sacred place for Orthodox Christians like Mount Athos or holy sites in Palestineâ and that âtheologians discussing theological issues sitting at the table is one thing, but people contacting our brothers in the West, moreover at the holy site, is quite another matter. It is very important not only maintain our relations on theological level, but also to feel one another in our hearts.â
âThe success of your mission among the Italians is important not only for them,â he continued. âIt is very important for the development and strengthening of relations between our Churches. Therefore we appreciate that the Catholic Church is upholding the same Gospel values as the Russian Orthodox Church.â
The KGB Putin part.
We have “manna” from the tomb of St. Nicholas at Bari mixed with holy water in our icon corner. It has been used to annoint gravely ill children and we have been blessed with cures! God bless the Patriarch!
Though the church in Bari is Catholic. Bari is a former Greek colony. So when Bari sailors took St. Nicholas’ bones (Santa Claus is Greek! LOL!) from Asia Minor it seems to me they were rescuing a Greek saint to lay in a Greek city’s holy church even though it was Catholic at that time - though I am not sure how Catholic or when the Greeks of Italy and Sicily switched over from Byzantine empire Orthodox to Roman Catholic.

Holy Manna oozing from the St. Nicholas’ bones is being extracted in this video by the Catholic clergy and handed to the Orthodox priest. The look of reverence from all - even when the Orthodox priest removes his hat. To me this is proof the power of Christ is in both Churches and through this Saint the two Churches are connected as one.
Matthew 16:23
The Vulgate was in Latin.
Stop pretending like you are religious. You couldn’t possibly be, worshiping someone like KGB Putin like you do.
The Vulgate was in Latin - I meant vulgate as in “common tongue” - the language the every day people speak. That is where we get the term “vulgar” from.
I worship Jesus - you worship Islam?
Idiot.
Troll.
This FSB NOOB reminds of that one who was banned a few months ago, who admitted to working for FSB.
Please refrain from personal attacks on other FReepers per religion forum guidelines. Your persistent anti-Orthodox spamming of threads in the Religion Forum is in poor taste.
Trumpinator is a die-hard Putin loyalist. There is no action by Putin he doesn’t support.
“To me this is proof the power of Christ is in both Churches and through this Saint the two Churches are connected as one”
Not just through St. Nicholas, but through a whole “heavenly host” of saints. Just a few days ago the local Latin monseignior, a priest and a Maronite deacon and about 100 Latin faithful came to our parish for the vespers for the feast of St. Andrew the First Called and an Advent Fast meal thereafter. We will go to their basillica in June on the feast of St. Peter. It was very nice.
May God bless you and yours!
Roman Catholics, and all the orthodox churches are in communion with one another and share exactly the same gospel truths.
I think that you protest too much...if you are strong in your beliefs, others opposing them, should be of little concern to you. Putin is the head of a VERY powerful country and should be given due respect as such. I think that he is a fool for acting as he does...he has the ego of a professional wrestler....and the I.Q. to match.
In these days of islamic terrorism, he could be raised above all the fracas if he would just join civilized society in the war against terrorism....but his ego gets in the way every time.......sad
I’ve never heard that before.
And I found out that you are mistaken.
From the dictionary:
Someone who’s vulgar has bad taste, and could also be called unrefined or unsophisticated. Your snobby neighbor might mutter about your family’s vulgar taste if you paint your house with rainbow stripes.
From the Latin vulgus, meaning “the common people,” vulgar is an adjective that can describe anything from the sexually explicit to the merely ugly and crass
“Someone whoâs vulgar has bad taste, and could also be called unrefined or unsophisticated. Your snobby neighbor might mutter about your familyâs vulgar taste if you paint your house with rainbow stripes.”
When I was young, my father made sure that all “vulgar” people were sent around to the back door, if they were sent to any door at all! Fifty years later and the vulgar are calling the shots because politicians told them that their low ideas and common opinions count for something.
