The Vulgate was in Latin - I meant vulgate as in “common tongue” - the language the every day people speak. That is where we get the term “vulgar” from.

And I found out that you are mistaken.

From the dictionary:

From the Latin vulgus, meaning “the common people,” vulgar is an adjective that can describe anything from the sexually explicit to the merely ugly and crass
