ISIS Surrenders in face of Climate Change Conference

Raqqa, Syria

Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader of the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant, also known as ISIS, announced today that he would be disbanding all forces and returning all land to Syria and Iraq. The move was prompted by the ongoing Climate Conference in Paris.

"This is one thing we could not have anticipated," Mr. al-Baghdadi said in prepared remarks. "When we see the world coming together like this on such a dangerous subject as Global Climate Change, we realize that our Caliphate will never survive. It's only a matter of time before Climate Change is no more and the world's attention turns to us. At that point, we will have no chance. For the sake of the men, women, and children who have supported us, I can not continue a doomed campaign."

An emotional al-Baghdadi did not take any questions.

Sources close to al-Baghdadi who spoke on the condition of anonymity told us that it was becoming more and more difficult to recruit new fighters. "Even our existing people are extremely demoralized," one said. "The words of Donald Trump himself can not overcome our dispair."

According to their press release, surrender is total and immediate. Fighters are being paid and sent home by division. Any remaining money will be put into a fund to resettle Christians and Yazidis who have been displaced by the war.

"We thought the world was fragmented," one strategist was overheard saying to himself. "Who knew it could come together like this? This is a stinging rebuke."

So far there has been no comment from Damascus, Baghdad, Moscow, or Washington. One source inside the Kremlin said, "We are waiting to see if there will be any follow-up action. We want to make sure this is real before we decide on our next steps."

I get your point, but stalactites and stalagmites would be the last place I’d look for that. These stone tree-rings are made of the best filtered water in the world.

Long-duration ice cores and sea-floor sediment cores should be where you’d find that data. An advantage of finding it there would be that it would all be nicely indexed with pollen, diatom layers, and magnetic alignments, to help show the correlation with impacts as contributing to the climactic upheaval.

But also, don’t forget that it’s mostly orbital variations that put the periodicity in glaciation. You might be able to use that as a filter to make the “incoming” stand out even more.

The stalactite/stalagmite data isn’t related to the ET isotopes. Sorry that seemed mixed.

The Eltanin impact left iridium behind in the Antarctic ice.

Don’t forget that the idea that glaciation has any gradual cause is nonsense.

Iridium was left in the aftermath of the Chicxulub Impact as well. That made quite a splash, as you’ll recall.

Not only the Earth, but its climatic effects can ring like a bell. Anything with periodicity indicates input energy oscillating with output results.

Eventually, ice ages will be completely a thing of the past, but it’s too soon to say that right now.

Also eventually, we’ll have to take charge of controlling the climate on the planets we choose to live on. It will still be smoke and mirrors, but at least it will be our smoke and mirrors.

As long as there’s something out there to hit the Earth, ice ages will never be a thing of the past.

SQUEEE!!!!

FYI: On this day in 1892, JRR Tolkien was born!

Wow. I go to bed and all y’all have one of the most interesting conversations I’ve ever followed! It will probably be another year before I see another one... :o|

Happy birthday to Professor Tolkien. I’ll have to read the boys some of “The Silmarillion” later. It’s been quite a while since we made progress on that.

I took five boys to Mass. It went surprisingly well. Tom had been up only ten minutes when we left home, so I guess he wasn’t feeling energetic enough to cause trouble with the others.

I’ve had my shower, and was contemplating going to church but I’m just a little hung over from yesterday.

I had my first ulcer cocktail when I took my pills, and my stomach actually feels almost normal. So I’m treating my mouth to coffee with chocolate creamer and some Oreos. :o])

The next cocktail will be around noon, when my second batch of pills is due. Then the last one this evening. They make my mouth numb for about 15 minutes after I eat one, so I know they are working on my stomach.

Very cloudy this morning, with a temp of 40 and no chance of rain. The wind is only about 2 mph.

Sixty-one pedestrians were killed in Vegas this last year, 14 of them on Boulder Highway. The speed limit is going to be lowered 10 mph, there will be more crosswalks with better lighting, and if they have to, they will make elevated walkways.

(It took a while for my stomach to calm down yesterday, but today, it feels SO much better!)

It’s expected to be in the mid-50s here, and colder tomorrow. I’m glad your stomach is feeling better.

I’m just going to have to resign myself to the fact that I will need to take the cocktails at least one day a week if I expect to drink coffee, beer or wine. And continue to take my iron pills.

And I need to go get laundry money. I sure wish I could remember that on payday. I actually have it at the bottom of my budget page, but seldom remember it when I’m out running errands. My bad.

I don’t always make it to the end of the list, either.

So I should comb my hair and go to get laundry money. But I’m sleepy.

I just stripped the bed so I could fill up the laundry basket, and now I don’t feel like putting on clean sheets. *sigh*

Welldarn. I’m just going to go get the change and come back and make the bed. Once it’s made, I can fall into any time! :o]

Sounds like a plan. I’m going to see what’s up with laundry here.

Au contraire, mon amie. We are in the midst of being on the verge of making remarkable strides in almost every avenue of potential endeavors.

From new fabrics and electronic components to entirely new industries based on new materials and applications, we stand at the threshold of Hogwarts, having just been issued our wands.

Our future, being now based on that mythic "sufficiently advanced technology", will be magical.

Very convincing argument, Bob. We have been on the threshold of magic for quite a few years. Technology has never evolved so quickly as it has in the last 170 years. Once it started, it became impossible. It will move faster and faster, every day.

I saw a thing on Facebook for a little drone called “Lily,” and it is an amazing thing. I want one!
