What do you get when a magician buys an A-frame house in the desert? A sprawling, brightly colored compound that looks like something out of a Dr. Seuss book. It has hidden rooms, fire poles, and a place where visitors must sign in and have their mugshot taken.
The Slammer is the creation of Penn Jillette. It sits on 10 acres of land in the Las Vegas desert. The residence started out as an A-frame house and grew as the magician, one half of the act Penn and Teller, added on. It has covered parking, a recording studio, a home theater, and a whole wing for his two kids. Eventually, it reached nearly 8,000 square feet. Jillette calls it The Slammer, inspired by the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases: Thanks to a bunch of safety features, the Institute is a place from which nothing can escape (hopefully). Jillette wanted something similar but for privacy and seclusion instead of disease control.
But the remote retreat was built during his bachelors days, and the magician and his family recently moved to a swanky, new, less remote neighborhood. No one wanted to buy the hodgepodge house, so Jillette considered selling it to developers. Instead, the United Church of Bacon â a church founded by atheists with ties to Jillette â wants to buy The Slammer to use as a community center for like-minded individuals.
Since Jilletteâs new zip code comes with a hefty price tag, he canât just outright give the house to the church, which has decided to raise money on Indiegogo for the purchase. Though it says it needs $3 million to buy, fix up, and maintain the place, its current funding goal is $500,000.
Jillette says heâs giving the church a discount on the house; if he were selling the place to developers, heâd charge a lot more. But they would likely bulldoze The Slammer, which would be a real shame. The Scrabble-tile bathroom alone is a treasure.
How can atheists have a church. The moment you profess to believe in something, even if you call it the Church of Bacon, you are no longer atheists.
All I know is that I have immense respect for Penn Jillette.
It looks like a 1950’s motel. But, the article says that it has a recording studio. Isn’t he the silent part of the duo? Why does he need a recording studio? Needless to say, I don’t watch them.
Tell them the land is contaminated by dihydrogen monoxide.
No, he’s the larger louder half. Of course Teller (the smaller quieter one) only doesn’t talk when “in character”. He talks plenty when they’re not in stage mode. After shows they both hang out and sign autographs and chat with fans. Teller always gets the bigger crowd because everybody wants to hear him. They’re both really nice.
What maroon put in these keywords? >>>>> fagmagician; gaymagician; queermagician ?????
Penn Gillet is not gay! He is famously libertarian so is probably pro-gay marriage.

If this compound could be magically picked up and moved to Miami or LA it could make a ton of money as a motel or hotel with an attached expensive restaurant serving nouveau whatever tiny stuff in large plates.
Even if you wash it off, you still have trace amounts on you.
I saw him give a news show a tour of the house. He said the recording studio was used for his podcast.
"You're so ugly you could be a modern art masterpiece!"
I took my wife and her friend to their act in Vegas a few years ago.
We did not enjoy ourselves. They did very few tricks and Penn mostly gabbed.
He also wouldn’t stop swearing. It got my wife’s friend so sick, we left early and tried to get our money back.
Why would you have respect for him? He is a freaking liberal. The only thing I’ve ever liked that he has done is the video that made fun of the 9-11 Truthers.
Thanks for the correction. As I said, I don’t watch them. Not that I don’t like them, I just don’t take the chance to see them.
I kinda liked his TVShow about debunking stuff but we went to see his magic show in LasVegas. Absolutely the most boring thing I have ever had to sit through!
Watch their Bullshit Show about the Second Amendment on Youtube. I used to watch the Show and I agreed with a lot of them and disagreed with others.
Penn and Teller are Libertarians, not Liberals, but I know many think the two ideologies are similar.
Some people that call themselves libertarians are more conservative, but he’s not one of them. I saw a wife swap show with his family on it and they are batshit crazy. They are raising there kids with no rules and they can learn what they want to learn for school. So, basically, they are raising self indulgent brats. He is a very rude egotistic person.
