The seven-year-old Belgian shepherd dog, or Malinois, was "killed by terrorists" when French special forces raided an apartment building in Saint-Denis early on Wednesday morning.
Police National tweeted:"Diesel, a seven-year-old Malinois, police dog for RAID [France's anti-terrorist police unit], was killed by terrorists in the ongoing operation."
The police spokesman said that dogs such as Diesel who are trained to assist on operations where there is a risk of explosives were "indispensable" to the elite unit.
The brave dog was reportedly the first to be sent into an apartment, which was used by at least six jihadis in the run up to the attacks, to assess the level of danger before they stormed it.
Hi Boardwalk,
I was partial to the photo of Diesel in formation. He was with the troops/officers with whom he served.
The breeder of my up gave me a long term goal of 100+ commands for training. It is a much larger task than what I anticipated. I’ll be satisfied with a few (heel, sit, stay, come, drop) but I do want to get not bite work for personal protection. I’m told that LE like the Malinois, among other traits, because when they “latch” onto a bad guy, they don’t let go. They don’t release until commanded. Yeah do not maul with multiple bites. They only relax their bite (before commanded to) to improve the depth within their jaw. I’m told that their jaw line is longer than most other breeds.
Like you, I feel that any deficiency in my pup will be my fault. She has much more energy than I ever dreamt. I run 1/2 marathons (with many training runs at distance) and I wanted a running companion for personal security. She is easier to take along than to carry a firearm on my waist. She is also more alert.
It is the unquestioning friendship that you receive from your Bichon. That is a good thing!
Gwjack
Some bite work
Rest in peace.
Cheesy stupid movie. The Belgian malinoises who play Max way out-act the humans. Great dog.
My Belgian died at 15. He protected his people and property to his last day. This is not a “pet” breed. They need a job and, most of all, they need structure and training.
This video shows why they are the premiere breed for police and military:

I’m sad over the death of the dog. But when a subhuman savage scum stops breathing I rejoice. Terrorists, jihadis and islamic state members are a lower form of life than dung beetles.
While cognizance is only fully developed in humans, dogs have a sense of family and belonging unlike any other animal. I am as saddened by someone who doesn’t understand that Diesel is a hero in every sense of the word, and God will remember him, wheras the lowlife scum who killed him and his human police associates should have no more existence. The human police will get deserved honors. Diesel will get honors. The dead Islamofascists would be placed either in a toxic waste dump, or the bodies sent to medical schools for first year students to dissect. They have Homosapiens DNA, but they weren’t human.
I guess the top and bottom halves of the suicide bomber are missing a middle part. The pieces are off to the toxic dump, as the incompleteness is not much use to the students I mentioned
Or wrap them in bacon, cover them in pig intestines and send them to the nearest mosque as a warning.
I heard on the news this morning that this dog died and my heart sank. And I thought "what kind of person am I that hearing this dog died hurt me more than hearing that the people died".
Wow 100 commands! I’ve got some work to do! Take good care of that pup!! Sometimes I wish i had a real dog lol.
Iâm guessing if I posted this on Facebook my âfriendsâ would be more likely to âlikeâand comment than they have been about the people being killed.
...
I was at the store the other day and took a glance at the Hallmark cards. Next to the stack of cards for “Loss of child” was the stack of cards for “Loss of cat.”
RIP good doggie.
So you think only men can be suicide bombers? How sexist.
Probably. We would care if innocent people were killed; if terrorists are killed, who cares!
Dieter is my pup of 11 years, a Malinois too.
Found him as a rescue dog 9 years ago.
Smart, fearless, ferocious and kind as can be to everyone but the postman.
I try to be the man my Dieter thinks I am.
RIP Diesel.
I an sitting at the local non-Starbucks, with my associate, Rufus. Dogs have a bond with humans like no other animal.
Don’t know about this case but there are many examples of dogs going up against a dangerous foe, i.e., a bear, to protect a human or going back into a fire for someone or leading rescuers to a victim.
Wow the names are so close! I’m happy Dieter found a good one!
