This is literally the start of the World Wide Web. This is Tim Berners-Lee's very first Web Page. The FIRST Web Page ever. . . the literal starting point of the Internet.

It still exists as Tim Berners-Lee wrote it. On August 6, 1991, Tim Berners-Lee posted in the Usenet group alt.hypertext about a project he was working on called the World Wide Web--or, as he referred to it, "W3," a shorthand that surprisingly never caught on. The first webpage is still there at its original address on the CERN high-energy physics lab's site, substantially unchanged--no background, no graphics, just plain text and some links to other information about the nascent Web.

The Project: World Wide Web

    Who coined LOL?

When was the first IBTZ? The first just had to be a texting Valley girl! The second obviously was an observant, anticipatory Freeper awaiting the Viking Kittehs!

Is it loading slow or is it just me? blazing fast 300 baud dial up Perhaps it hasn't had as much traffic in years as the amount brought to it by my bringing it to the attention of all of us Freepers. . . Grin!

Brings back memories. I remember “surfing” (mid-90’s, maybe?) meant zero video, some graphics, and very little music or ads.

When I saw my first amazon.com sign, I assumed they sold clothes to large and tall women. I thought it was another porn site!

What if at the begging of the WWW they got it all wrong and this is the crap we wound up with.

I remember something about this. Got on web in that year under guidance from head computer geek friend at Brazil’s 2nd largest university.
By 1992 I was doing email and business with the university over the internet selling their computer dept. PC’s and hardware........
Sometime in there I joined Compuserve which was one of the first ways to connect to the internet. I think a 2400 baud modem was considered fast then.....

8700 baud (1988-89 CompuServe BBS), receiver in the cradle, was a lot of fun.

There must be some kind of mistake...
I clicked the “people” involved link and looked at the list. Al Gore was no where to be found.
Curious!

That netscape icon was certainly mesmerizing. Seems my start to web use was about '93 or so I guess.
Of course I was using BBS', which were the precursors to the web as far back as 1988.

‘Pron’ was being spread via localized BBS’s then.
