If anyone deserves to pay more to shore up the federal safety net, either through higher taxes or lower benefits, itâs boomers â the generation that was born into some of the strongest job growth in the history of America, gobbled up the best parts, and left its children and grandchildren with some bones to pick through and a big bill to pay. Politicians shouldnât be talking about holding that generation harmless. They should be asking how future workers can claw back some of the spoils that the âMe Generationâ hoarded for itself.

This is going to be upsetting.
The truth usually is :)
That’s it. I feel so guilty that I’m sending my SocSec check back. NOT. Believe it or not, some baby boomers are conservatives. :>}
You can’t fix stupid.
Stupid as hell.
Leftists and their policies killed the goose that laid the golden egg. Not one generation or another.
And there are plenty of those in all generations. In fact, a good case can be made that there are more in generations following the boomers.
So what did conservative boomers do about it when leftist policies were being implemented in the 80s, 90s, and the W era?
Disagree.
Boomers did the best with what they were given. MBAs took the value out and subsequent generations have not demonstrated innovation and drive.
I’m a baby boomer. Served my country for 24 years in uniform through multiple conflicts, am eligible but have not taken a military pension, continue to work in the private sector (at the 26 year mark and intend not to retire unless health makes me), never taken govt. welfare (unemployment, food stamps, disability, etc), hope not to have to take social security or medicare, even though I’ve paid scores of thousands into those programs.
Who, again, is the problem?
Why not try the career politicians of both parties and the knothead voters who keep returning them to office.
This kind of stupid actually hurts. It really isn’t worth responding to.
Again, what did conservative boomers do about this?
“Did that majority sock away money for future safety-net costs? No. Pols talked about putting budget surpluses in a âlockbox,â but not for long. Instead they cut their own taxes, they deficit-financed two wars, they approved a new Medicare prescription drug benefit that their generation will be the first to enjoy in full. Partly as a result of those policies, the federal budget deficit has averaged 4 percent of GDP in the Bush/Obama era, more than double the average rate of the 50 years before that. Boomers let federal debt, as a share of the economy, double from where it was in 1970.”
Cheered it on with loud applause
How ridiculous. It’s the politicians wasting our money, not the baby boomers who created millions of jobs, and spent lots of money in the economy. And most of those politicians were socialists spending other people’s money. And RINO’s that went along with them. The cure: GO TRUMP! (a baby boomer billionaire, in case you haven’t noticed).
bs. That was not a generational thing, but a left right thing. The left has been running things most of the time since FDR. Blaming a whole generation is just a technique for shifting the blame, so that today’s leftists aren’t tagged with the blame for yesterday’s leftists.
What is the largest voting block in this country returning those knothead politicos to office?
Conservative voters voted against them. Sometimes they won, most times they lost. Just like you do today.
Wait till some snot nose blames you and everyone of your generation for the condition of the country, whatever that is. You’ll realize how utterly stupid and unproductive such charges are.
No, this is stupid. The truth isn’t stupid.
The excess funds collected from the Boomers for Social Security COULD have been used wisely.
Instead it was used to ‘invest’ for the Boomer’s children.
The only lesson is the government will spend any dollar it gets unwisely.
I'm on social security, and uh, no they don't, and uh, no they won't. He just lost his credibility right there.
We voted but didn’t understand the word RINO at the time. Look I work hard, raised my kids to be upright citizens, pay all the taxes I’m supposed to and give what I can to charity. Blaming a whole generation is like saying all blacks are part of the BLM movement.
It mostly certain is a generational thing, most young people today are just too stupid to pay attention and see the world being left behind by their aging parents.
What was the federal debt in 1980 when boomers started to take the reigns of leadership in this country compared to today?
What were wages like? How many illegals were in the country in 1980 compared to today? How many jobs had been shifted to China and Mexico in 1980 compared to today?
