A post mortem found she died as a result of her "excessive consumption" of caffeine from the fizzy pop combined with her prescription drugs.
"When mum was drinking heavily she could get through a one-litre bottle of vodka a day and four two-litre bottles of Pepsi Max."

Green Hornet = Dr. Ben Carson...lol
I went in one day to get my husband's RX filled after he had gallbladder surgery.
Literally, I went through the inquisition to get it filled. He WANTED me to produce my husband in person because it was in his name. I said, "he's in bed in pain". He almost didn't give it to me.
From reading the article, it looks like she died from a drug overdose.
And you watched....and did nothing....
It isn’t the caffeine that’s the problem.
It’s the combination with EXCESSIVE ALCOHOL and PRESCRIBED MEDICATION, along with the caffeine that’s the dynamite.
All those items are in conflict with each other and cause the other items to react differently than they normally would. The prescription drugs are really a problem. When people don’t take medications correctly; this is the result.
It appears to me that “Mum” didn’t want to live. Sad.
It’s all society’s fault!
Pepsi Max in the UK has less caffeine than that sold in the USA. Two liters there has around 250mg, same as a typical ‘tall’ Starbucks. (If I read the numbers correctly).
I'd say she committed suicide. Of course, pepsi would pay better than any ole insurance policy.
Gotta love the Mirror. The woman was popping pills and guzzling down vodka but the headline is that the Pepsi Max killed her.
“Naturally the vodka and prescription drugs didnât have anything to do with it.”
Pshaw. A one-litre bottle of vodka a day isn’t enough to harm a fly. Most people polish that much off in the morning before they’ve finished their corn flakes.
I had a boyhood friend’s father die at 42 because he drank Coca-Cola primarily for his diet.
Eventually the liver gives out and goes into an irreversible decline. We now know that much less sugar than this is poison as it taxes the liver.
It was the first death I experienced as a teenager at 13.
Don’t believe she drank a liter of vodka every day. Nor do I believe that she drank 8 liters of Pepsi every day.
That would reduce her “dose” to 650 mg, which is not a lot.
I worry about the effects on the young with the additives. Guys will buy a lg cup of coffee and add caffeine.
8 liters a day of Pepsi Max?
That’s crazy. That’s 2 gallons or so, isn’t it?
Who in the world drinks 2 gallons each day of anything?
In this case, not only was the medical procedure a post mortem, it was also a post moron.
That’s recent. Even doctors have to confirm with the pharmacy for valium for an 81 yr old friend of my mom’s. But, there has to be a way. The drug companies and the VA are over medicating the vets, and a 49 yr old woman I know overdosed on her pain meds. Bottom line is the buck.
I might do that much beer on the weekend, but otherwise, yeah.
Naturally.
