'I Don't Know What That Is' - Trump explains Seventh Day Adventist Comment on 'Face the Nation'
The Right Scoop ^ | 10/25/2015 | soopermexican

Posted on 10/25/2015 2:48:36 PM PDT by conservativejoy

El Trumpo continued his attack on Ben Carson for his taking the lead in the Iowa polls while he joined CBS’ “Face the Nation.”

He tried to explain that he didn’t intend his comments about Carson’s faith as an insult, but rather that he just didn’t know anything about the denomination. Some have said that it’s smart of his bringing up the subject as it’ll cause some doubt among Evangelicals in Iowa.

He also said that his campaign “completely disavowed” superPACs after a pro-Trump superPAC was closed down when the Washington Post found questionable ties to the Trump campaign.

I’ve just been reading the two links you provided. It is amazing how much cults have in common.

Good thoughts. I see you take the issue seriously. As an Elder of the SDA church, Dr. Carson would be held to a higher standard of adherence to its teachings. My personal opinion is that he would not be an effective C of C, something we cannot afford to continue.

I believe that peace through strength is a goal we must endeavor to meet. Carson does not have the skill set to convey that on the world stage.

I’m so old that I remember when being Catholic would disqualify anyone from becoming President.

The thought was the Pope would be running the Country.

Now we have Obama and Satan is running the Country.

Like Trump, I have no idea what the Teachings of the Seventh Day Adventist Religion are.

Adventists do not believe that there would be just 144,000 in Heaven. If you read Revelations chapter 7, there are 144,000 that are sealed. Then, there is another group that cannot be numbered.

In regards to Christmas, as it is originally a pagan holiday to celebrate the resurrection of a false god, why should it trouble you that some people, more than Adventists by the way, would not feel it as part of their faith to celebrate?

Adventists have never taught that Christ has come back in secret. They teach that the second coming is going to be massively unsecretive. It will seen by the whole world.

Supposedly the evangelicals didn’t like Romney’s Mormonism. I’d think Seventh-Day Adventism would be as big a problem.

Yes, there were people who would not vote for Romney because Mormonism Is pseudoChristian and there are people who will not vote for Cardin because they regard Seventh Day Adventism as a modern restorationist cult, or pseudoChristian like Mormonism and JW. I think it makes more sense to vote against the most dangerous candidate, Hillary, by voting for whoever the Republican nominee that is chosen.

All Trump has to do is raise the question, then let it take its own course.

I’ve been reading that Carson is getting a lot of evangelical support, so this could hurt Carson.

I don’t have much of a religious test myself (no Muslims though!), but we would’ve been better off if JFK had lost, so in that case prejudice would’ve had a happy ending.

Facts and False Doctrines of the Seventh Day Adventist Church

Ellen G. White, who claimed to have “the spirit of prophecy,” was an important early leader of the movement and taught a number of distinctive Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) doctrines, including the Investigative Judgment and Sabbatarianism. While the churchs official theology now appears to be generally in the tradition of evangelical Christianity, certain SDA claims and unique doctrines continue to raise questions.

These doctrines include the SDA belief that Sunday worship will result in the “Mark of the Beast,” imbalanced teachings on keeping the commandments (baptism, Sabbath observance) that often implies a kind of salvation by works, the “Remnant Church” doctrine that implies that the SDA is or will be God’s only true church, and the doctrine of the Investigative Judgment. Profile available.

Adventism: Widespread trans-denominational movement inspired by William Miller’s prediction that Jesus’ “advent” (return) would take place in 1844. Even after the Great Disappointment (the date’s failure), many people in the movement continued to believe. Some suggested revised chronologies and new dates, eventually forming groups such as the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society.

Others, notably Hiram Edson and Ellen G. White, suggested that the 1844 date was accurate but that a heavenly (thus invisible) event had taken place. Their teachings became the basis of Seventh-day Adventism, which eventually spawned its own offshoots, including Armstrongism and the Branch Davidians.

*** I think you may be referring to Jehovah’s Witnesses on those two doctrines. ***

No, that is why I linked to two Adventist Websites. Both JW’s and SDA’s have their roots in the Adventist Movement of, IIRC, the early 1800’s. So they do have some similar beliefs.

Quite honestly I am unfamiliar with the SDA tenants as well. I know a little about the Jehovah's Witnesses and it seems odd. They believe that only 144,000 will be in heaven. I find it hard to believe that Dayton Ohio is more populated than Heaven. Just Sayin’

That does not mean that they believe Christ came. They did mistakenly believed, based on their understanding of prophecy, that Christ would come again in 1844. When that didn’t happen, they went back to the Bible to try to understand what might have happened. They believe that the cleansing of the sanctuary refers to the blotting out of the sins of the saved.

It’s based on the Jewish sacrificial system. Adventists believe that the system is a model of what God I doing to save mankind. Everything the Jews had to do, in the sacrificial system, God is doing for us.

IIRC, Jonty is SDA. Things some see as problematic with Carson’s religious beliefs are not seen as problematic by others.

Truthfully, Carson’s vegetarianism, and his statement that he “hopes their comes a time when Americans don’t feel the need to eat red meat.” put him on my not my kind of guy list.

SDA vegetarians eat very well. They are not starving of nutrients, just for the record. Carson would certainly make a better President than Hillary. His Presidency would not be looking to interfere with how Americans choose to live their lives.

Adventists are great believers in the American Constitution and liberty, probably the greatest of all Christian denominations and sects because they believe the liberty the US provides protects the to live out their faith as they wish.
