Sara Domaradzka had just escaped her family's burning two-flat in Portage Park early Tuesday when her dog Bambi scrambled out of her arms and raced back into the flames.
Her family believes the 4-year-old terrier-Labrador mix knew Domaradzka's 69-year-old father was still in the home and went back after him.
"She ran back into the house to find (Sara's) dad, and then they both got stuck there," said Domaradzka's boyfriend, Alessandro Mininni.
Firefighters arrived at the home on the 5100 block of West Grace Street around 1:30 a.m. and carried out Piotr Domaradzka, who did not have any vital signs.
Paramedics worked on him as he lay on the sidewalk and were able to revive him, and he was in critical condition as he was taken to a hospital.

My cat would run out the door and never look back. Forget my name in a half hour.
Prayers out.

I went out with a girl named Bambi once. But we didn’t set any fires.

Mininni sat in the hospital’s waiting room waiting for information from a nurse, who emerged with soot-covered hands and good news:
“She’s stable.”
Mininni said Domaradzka was found under a bed and believes Bambi was found nearby.
While the dog belongs to Sara, her dad and Bambi have developed a close bond over the years. The two would go for walks and hang out together in the home the family has owned for decades.
“He takes care of her all the time,” Mininni said.
He said his girlfriend’s father remained in critical condition at Loyola University medical center. Bambi remained in the animal hospital and may suffer some complications, Mininni said.
“It looks pretty good for her, if she has complications they could be minimal,” he said.

I saw a captioned photo that wasn’t completely grayed out by the subscription popup, they got the dog out and were treating her, I assume she survived.

It was quite a story, but she made it.

I'm glad things turned out so well for Bambi. My wife and I lost our two Dachshunds in a house fire three years ago. They weren't so lucky. And they were alone when it happened, which both pisses me off and I will always feel guilty about, because I should have been there to save them. I
could have been there to save them. I keep thinking about what was going through their minds in those last few moments, and I know they were wondering where we were and why we were letting this happen. Sorry, now I can't see to type.

Let go and let God. It was their time, and for whatever reason, it had to happen that way. You were kept away because you would have saved them, but it was their time to go. And you don’t know if you would have died in the fire too. With God there’s always wisdom, but a lot of times you can’t see it.

That killed me. Very touching.
But at my weight, he’s have no chance :)
And my better half would save him first.
But he kept me company for the several years i was home sick and he is my best buddy :)
