The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you. This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks.
No matter what, you wont be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isnt asked. It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table(recipes)preserving, good living - there is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!
NOTE: This is a once a week ping list. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest are welcomed, so feel free to post them at any time.
I’ll bet tubebender and the Mrs cab grow sticks into something. The plants always look sooo great.
Marcella give johnny a HUGE hug from me. It is wonderful he’s putting on weight. Prayers are helping, thank goodness. We need him here.
Glad to hear the great progress; still praying.
I'm only up at 3am to try to fix a heater here in the house. It's too cold and too early. ;)
In the summer, pants are optional.

Great to hear from you JRF...
Those tomatoes look so good. I planted some in July for fall and winter, when they came up, something ate new plants. We have no deer, so I cannot imagine what would eat the baby plants.
So good to see you. Hopefully you got the heater working.
I'm cleaning out the pond in my front yard.
It was used as a stock tank for many years and had filled in with muck.
How did you get rid of the water? Just curious.
Most of it evaporated during the drought of 2011.
Then I cut the dam so it wouldn’t fill back up.
We’ve got a creek we always wanted to dam up to make a small pond. That was 1981, don’t think we will get around to it. :)
Report on going to see Johnny:
He’s wearing a pair of sweatpants as they stretch in the waist. He’ll get some new pants soon to accommodate his now 130 pounds, the most he has ever weighed.
He gave me a cup of coffee - oops, coffee with Kahlua in it - very good.
We had a belated birthday party for him. His birthday was Oct. 13, but we were out of town and he couldn’t eat much that day due to preparing for medical tests the next day.
We took a carrot cake with real cream cheese icing, with Happy Birthday Johnny on it. Luckily, he said carrot cake was one of few he likes. We sang Happy Birthday to him.
He and Bob looked at a heater that doesn’t work and they found the problem. Both of them together dump on me ‘cause I’m a girl. Now, there was tiny writing on the stove and they needed to know that to get the model number/other numbers, and I was able to read that and they couldn’t so I beat them over the head verbally, telling them girls were important to have around.
He has more medical appointments/tests to determine how well he is doing with the cancers, to determine if more chemo will happen.
He was supposed to die last January or February, but he didn’t. He talked about how bad it was during those early months of chemo. He weighed about 100 lbs. when this started and the treatment people were concerned he was too thin to survive the chemo. I think he saved himself by counting every calorie that went into him. He kept a detailed list of every food he prepared and the calorie count of each one and stuffed as many calories as he could in that food.
He is miracle to be living.
Marcella, thanks for the great update. Johnny is blessed to have you and Bob as friends and I’m sure vice versa. So glad to hear he is doing so well.
Thank you for that report, still praying for him.
Good afternoon.
Thanks for the update.
Would you be so kind as to put me on your list.
Prayers to the Lord for healing and recovery.

Will put your name on the list.
Thank you for the prayers. I know I can always use them.

I have a list of gardeners who want to know how you are. It would be great if you checked into the gardening thread maybe every week to let everyone know how you are. Many people here love you, although I have no idea why. :o)
