The Pope takes on Trump: Francis makes thinly-veiled swipe at The Donald ...

Pope Francis made a thinly-veiled swipe at Donald Trump as the Pontiff defended Latino immigrants who came to America at 'great personal cost' during a moving speech to 40,000 followers in Philadelphia.

Francis called on migrants from Mexico and the rest of the world to 'not feel discouraged by all the challenges and hardships' they face, saying they should never feel ashamed of their own traditions.

The Pope's words come in direct contrast to Trump's calls for a wall to be built along the Mexican border and for stricter controls on who can enter the US.

Speaking from the lectern used by President Abraham Lincoln when he delivered the Gettysburg Address, Francis directly addressed America's Hispanic population, saying: 'Thank you for opening the doors. Many of you have emigrated. I greet you with my heart.

'Many of you came to this country at great personal cost, but in the hope of building a new life. Do not feel discouraged by all the challenges and hardships you might face. I ask you not to forget that, like those who came here before you, you bring many gifts to this new nation of yours.

'Please: do not feel ever ashamed of your traditions.'

The “Daily Mail”, in the UK says the Pope was thinking about Trump.

I think the nut-ball pope would be well advised to stay out of US politics.

If he’s so concerned about the welfare of illegal immigrants, why doesn’t he go lecture to the impoverished and corrupt Catholic countries from which they’re coming? instead, he urges them to subvert our laws and undermine the very system and structure that make America a place worth coming to — in contrast to the Catholic countries of Central and South America.

The Central and South American countries where his church rules, are POOR and CORRUPT. That’s why all these illegal immigrants are coming to America. He needs to lecture the backward Catholic countries — not try to undermine the United States!

If they liked their traditions so much, they would stay there and perpetuate them.

If they liked their CATHOLIC COUNTRIES so much, they’d stay there. But those countries are impoverished and corrupt. Why are so many Catholic countries poor?

I missed all that.

I recoil watching celebrities, religious people and the corrupt DC crowd tell Americans what cost and sacrifice tens of millions entering the U.S. illegally have made. It’s flat out in our faces.

'I would like to think, though, that the history of the church in this city and state is really a story not about building walls, but about breaking them down,' Francis said during the Mass. 'It is a story about generation after generation of committed Catholics going out to the peripheries, and building communities of worship, education, charity and service to the larger society.

This would seem to contradict your assertion that he didn't take a swipe at the Donald as WilliamIII pointed out in post #104. The Donald has been the only one in recent history that has referred to a "wall" as opposed to a "fence."

Actually, after reading this tripe I took a swipe at the phrase you chose and was going to say exactly the sane thing you did. The I scrolled down and saw your post—a solid confirmation that the idea I got was the same. Bergoglio is fortunate that we are tolerant, even though he is FOS.

Yeah, because Trump wants to build a wall in Philadelphia.

So, uh, no.

Even as we have a few snarky remarks at the expense of the Pope, the real issues are not immigration or Muslims.

The real issues are illegal immigration which no country would ever accept. I’m so tired of letting the Illegal and Legal Immigration getting to conflated together and then being accused of being against Immigration.

And, no one really has any issues with Muslims either. The issue is all the countries run by Muslims are Fanatical Dictatorships run by the rule of men, not the rule of law. Certainly, the Muslim faith trickles into their politics so much, dictatorships are inevitable, but my issue is first and foremost with their corrupt governments.

Finally, the left does not want the Western Democracies to enforce human rights in the Middle East (like the West did to Japan, Italy, and Germany) because they say we are uncultured boors. Fine, but the flip side of that coin is the misery those countries create on their citizens are their problems, not ours. The refugees should fight their oppressors, not flee to the ‘West’ that we’ve been told they hate.
