The Pope takes on Trump: Francis makes thinly-veiled swipe at The Donald ...

Pope Francis made a thinly-veiled swipe at Donald Trump as the Pontiff defended Latino immigrants who came to America at 'great personal cost' during a moving speech to 40,000 followers in Philadelphia.

Francis called on migrants from Mexico and the rest of the world to 'not feel discouraged by all the challenges and hardships' they face, saying they should never feel ashamed of their own traditions.

The Pope's words come in direct contrast to Trump's calls for a wall to be built along the Mexican border and for stricter controls on who can enter the US.

Speaking from the lectern used by President Abraham Lincoln when he delivered the Gettysburg Address, Francis directly addressed America's Hispanic population, saying: 'Thank you for opening the doors. Many of you have emigrated. I greet you with my heart.

'Many of you came to this country at great personal cost, but in the hope of building a new life. Do not feel discouraged by all the challenges and hardships you might face. I ask you not to forget that, like those who came here before you, you bring many gifts to this new nation of yours.

'Please: do not feel ever ashamed of your traditions.'

Trump knows perfectly well that there’s no bad publicity if you’re a performer. He managed to get himself photographed yesterday when the Pope was visititing NYC - he said he was just letting himself into his apartment, but of course he knew that the press would be waiting for him.

I can’t stand either Trump or the Pope. They’re both show-ponies. However, the Pope is definitely more dangerous.

Don’t go wobbly on us. Donald. That man has never done a lick of work since he signed up for the priesthood. Every meal, every need has been supplied by someone else. He has no idea what it would be like to go out and hustle for a living. Or what it would be like to have border crashers swarm one’s country and start sucking the economy dry on handouts.....or to have family members raped, murdered, etc., or to have your own property stolen or damaged by border crashing trash. To prove his truthfulness, let him settle at least 2000 border crashing muslims inside Vatican City. Then we’ll know he isn’t just blowing smoke.

**There was no mention, for example, of the Little Sisters of the Poor’s lawsuit against the contraception mandate in the Affordable Care Act. (On Wednesday, though Francis did meet with the nuns in Washington — a “show of support,” according to a Vatican spokesman.)

Francis never mentioned the Catholic adoption agencies that have closed rather than place children with gay couples. Nor did he explicitly allude to the “Fortnight for Freedom” that the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops have held to rally support against “current threats to religious liberty.”**

This pope is the anti christ pope and the last pope...

Pope Benedict spoke honestly about Islam. Now it has come to light that he was being undermined by a shadowy cabal that wanted to install Cardinal Bergoglio — the present Pope Francis — as Pope and “modernize” the Catholic Church.

One thing they’ve certainly succeeded in doing is ending all resistance to the global jihad that has victimized hundreds of thousands of Christians.

Cardinal Danneels admits: ‘Mafia’ club brought down Benedict XVI to make Church ‘much more modern,’”

Shutter the thought. That would be an embarrassment to his Marxist brother, BHO.

Francis is not a Pope. He's a community organizer in a funny hat.

Furthermore, the fact that THIS Pope is against Trump merely makes me realize backing Trump is the right thing to do.

As Sunken Civ pointed out in post#5, you have to squint a bit as you read between the lines in this story to find a knock on the Donald.

Did you know how many times the pope mentioned the word "Jesus" in the first speech he gave to Congress upon his arrival?

None.

Not one mention.

Kinda says it all.

Well, since the Pope didn’t bring it up, we can assume he has more class than Oble....

Yes, it sure does. Not once mentioning Jesus.

How long is this coverage of the Pope going to last? I can't recall anybody being this extensively covered.

“How many immigrants did the Vatican accept this year again?”

The last muslim to stray on the grounds of the Vatican shot the Pope. The Pope would be well served to follow Donald’s advise and put in his order for some barbed wire.

If they liked their traditions so much, they would stay there and perpetuate them.

Maybe the Vatican would like to finance the new prisons we would need to house all the criminals that walked in with no borders and all the new hospitals. Could you imagine trying to go to the emergency room, the illegals already have them backed up now.

God bless the Catholics. They are Christians to the core, but this pope can kiss my white capitalist American ass and go back to the turd-world hellhole he cam from and put his hands in his own damned pockets.

“... but if Trump believes that the Pope was thinking about him, his ego is even bigger than that of Pope Francis... For an entertainer, there’s no such thing as bad publicity. And Trump is an entertainer.”

You know, that was just downright nasty of you. Let it alone.

As SunkenCiv pointed out in post #9, this “swipe” is largely a fabrication by the authors. Their motive is probably to foment some catholic bashing on less savory forums. Thankfully FReepers have been relatively well behaved.

Watching the Pope trying to listen to Aretha!! His PUNISHMENT!!!

Was that terrible or what? They said she has 18 Grammys. In light of that horrific performance they should take back at least 5.

Contrast that to this.
