Donald Trump Is a Yuuuuuuuge Wuss
by Charles C. W. Cooke. September 24, 2015. How quickly was the great hard man reduced to sterile indignation. Last night, on Fox News, Rich Lowry proposed caustically that Carly Fiorina had, lets say, neutered Donald Trump during the most recent primary debate, and that she had done so with all the precision of a surgeon. In an instant, the whining began. Incompetent @RichLowry lost it tonight on @FoxNews, Trump griped on Twitter. He should not be allowed on TV and the FCC should fine him!
A few moments later, the lip wobbled out of control and the tears began to flow. @FoxNews owes me an apology for allowing clueless pundit @RichLowry to use such foul language on TV, Trump mewled. Unheard of! The diehard among Trumps fans like to claim that they are in search of a straight-talking Teddy Roosevelt type who will be capable of repelling Washingtons corrupting slings and arrows with his Great American Hide of Steel. In the wake of such an embarrassing display of frailty, one has to wonder how these people are feeling today.
In the last month alone, Trump has threatened to sue a small-time T-shirt maker whose products bear critical slogans (Donald Is Dumb, Stop Trump, and America Is Already Great); he has attempted to begin legal proceedings against the Club for Growth on the grounds that it has had the temerity to oppose him and his policies (this, Trump says, is defamation a stunted and preposterous piece of legal analysis that lends some credibility to the messages on the aforementioned t-shirts); and he has expressed a desire to use the federal government to censor unpliable journalists for the high crime of being amusing on television. That neither lawsuit has a shot in hell and, indeed, that the FCC doesnt actually have any jurisdiction over cable news does not seem to matter much.
What matters is that Donald Trump feels hurt, and that he doesnt like it one bit. Send in the bayonets, kids, we have some classy, classy tears to forestall. That it might be unwise to give nuclear weapons to a man who routinely seeks revenge against even the most modest of quibblers seems not to have occurred to the 25 percent or so of the Republican primary voters who are at present sitting on Trumps bandwagon. For the rest of us, though, I shall make the point clear: This is not a person who should be given access to a military or even, for that matter, to a modest bully pulpit.
Among the media figures that Trump has thus far called upon to be fired are Lowry (for suggesting that Carly cut him down to size in the testicles department), Jonah Goldberg (for proposing that he behaves like a 14-year-old girl), Stephen Hayes (for noting correctly that he is not a conservative), George Will (for arguing that he is a fraud), Charles Krauthammer (for discussing his unpopularity), Chuck Todd (for implying that he isnt a serious person), Megan Kelly (for . . . asking questions), and Hugh Hewitt (for the same offense). When maligned, Abraham Lincoln picked up his pen or arranged a debate. Donald Trump takes immediately to Twitter and shouts, take him off the air!
Why does Trump behave this way? Because hes a preposterous little trust-fund wuss, thats why. As was illustrated once again last night, the man is not really a fighter or an alpha male or an iron-cored enemy of political correctness. Hes a thin-skinned performance artist whose peculiar shtick falls to pieces the moment someone useful elects to return a punch. Look through Trumps recent Twitter contributions and you will see a wounded man who is always a few harsh phrases and a modicum of bad publicity away from curling up in an oversized sweater and listening to Everybody Hurts on repeat.
American presidents are supposed to be beacons of hope steely figures in a dangerous world. They arent supposed to have a hard time watching Fox News because a quick-witted guest happens to dislike them. They arent supposed to reach for the ice cream and stomp their Lilliputian feet if they consider that the press is treating them unfairly. And, in a free country such as America, they certainly arent supposed to react to each and every disparagement by asking which laws they might use to silence their detractors. It is one thing for a rebellious 3-year old to soil himself at the sign of trouble, and then to shout Daddyyyyyyyyyyaaa at the radiator; it is quite another for the prospective leader of the free world to do so.
If Trump wishes to police the countrys sharper purveyors of political animadversion and to carp impotently about injustice and unfairness he really shouldnt be seeking the White House. He should be using his considerable inherited wealth to better fund the anti-Mean Words department at Oberlin. Make America Pathetic Again? Lets not go there.
Is this guy ‘like’ Shepard Smith? Looks to me like it...
National Review: new and improved! Now all anti-Trump all the time! You can’t really blame them tough, they’re just like the rest of the establishment media: frightened to death of Trump because they know he isn’t scared of the media and they can’t control him.
Aren’t they the greatest!!!
That last one when they changed from RATS to Republicans, was one of the best....
That this guy decided to squat down in the gutter and use semi-profanity to dump on Trump is telling of how desperate they are getting. Trump must be squarely over the GOPe target to be taking so much flak. that Lowry and Smelly Kelly are touting FioRINO as a threat to Trump is also quite hilarious.
Go ahead FOX news, keep making boobs out of yourselves and we'll keep laughing.
he did indeed say that!
Mr Free Market....wants the guy to be censored...and....whatever else
amazing what happens when push comes to shove
donald has pulled his toys out of he sandbox once again, ‘Play Fair, or I will Twitterpat in how mean you are to me, and if sill do no get my way, I will have you fired! Having gone to Oberlin in the 1950s, precisely to be able to counter any Leftwing argument that I have encountered since, I will assure everyone that Donald Trump is the absolute antithesis of an Oberlin faculty member--although there is usually one legitimate Conservative, at least, on the faculty, in every era.
The National Review embarrassment--why they printed this, shows remarkably bad judgment;--the gobbler, we say, is unable to differentiate between a whining Leftist, and a patriot just having fun hurling insults back at confused pontificators.
Frankly, I wish Trump would use a little more finesse, on some of the weak sisters, he is attacking. But then no one is perfect, and we need to give Thanks, profound Thanks, for what Trump has already accomplished in disparaging the insanity called "Political Correctness."
Cooke is just downright vulgar and an obnoxious know it all. I’ve followed him on twitter and laughed when he was banned for a bit. His gig is to taunt, and yet he points his finger at Trump? Such irony.
you may be right...time will tell.
Yes he did - verbatim.
“If he could keep himself from continually insulting people, hed be at 50% in the polls right now.”
What a great idea. George W kept his mouth shut and ended his presidency with 32% approval.
I like Cruz as well. Trumps New York shtick us beginning to wear thin. But I just had lunch yesterday with a couple of old friends who are pretty much apolitical and they are thoroughly onboard Trumps wagon for two reasons. He says he will close the borders and he will owe nobody anything if elected. They have no idea what the GOPe is nor do they care.
Good points. I’ll vote for the R nominee in the general(except huckster.Bush or Paul) but Trumps constant attacks on EVERYONE is getting old. Let’s see what happens.
Ask yourself, is this (raging against both friend and foe, an inability to hold to a declared truce w/Fox, speaking less and less about issues of the day and more about his ego maintenance ) the logical pattern of public behavior for someone who says he wishes to be your next president?
I say no, it is not.
Unless he has lost the fire in the belly, and is preparing to pass the baton to his erstwhile protege; one Rafael Edward Cruz aka Ted Cruz. If this happens, I hope Cruz joins forces with Rubio. There are not many other choices available. At least not at this time.
Yes he did - verbatim.
Thanks. So Trump's solution in answer to a critical member of the press exercising the 1st amendment is to call in the federal government, via the FCC, to punish that person? Interesting.
A good hit piece must resonate at least in actual truth--it just, of course, picks and chooses what truths to employ. But simply name calling reveals--starkly reveals the amateur. Thus I called him a gobbler with absolute certainty that closer analysis would make the implied figure of speech stand up.
People like Cooke will only impress those who agree with them, but who also fall below the level of intelligence to even appreciate the implied issues involved. Any really intelligent person who might agree with his likes and dislikes, will be embarrassed by further, or closer, examination of his work product.
