Findings reveal all-male units outperformed mixed-gender unit but Navy secretary says study was flawed because of mindset of volunteers
A US marine corps study examining how women would perform in ground combat roles showed all-male units broadly outperformed mixed-gender units on everything from reaching targets quickly to firing accurately with heavier weapons.
The results of the study, a summary of which was released by the marine corps this week, could factor into Pentagon deliberations about which roles, if any, should remain off-limits to women. The US military services will soon submit their recommendations to Defense Secretary Ash Carter on the matter.
But navy secretary Ray Mabus has already publicly criticized the study. Mabus told National Public Radio he thought it was flawed, in part because of the mindset of the volunteers who participated.
It started out with a fairly large component of the men thinking this is not a good idea and women will never be able to do this. When you start out with that mindset youre almost presupposing the outcome, Mabus said in the NPR interview that aired on Friday.
The marine corps conducted the study using roughly 400 marines, about 100 of them women, who volunteered to join the experimental Ground Combat Element Integrated Task Force, which was established for the study in July 2014 and wrapped up its work in July 2015.

Who did not see this coming.
Navy skeptical of gravity and buoyancy laws. Proposes to build new boats of certifiably insane, leftist design....
It started out with a fairly large component of the men thinking this is not a good idea and women will never be able to do this...
Yeah, AND?
I’ve noticed lately that men are larger and usually MUCH stronger than women. But I could be wrong.
About 20 years ago my sister was working out furiously. She said she could now bench as much as me as after boxing for a number of years, I had gotten out of shape.
She benched 40, couldn’t do 50.
I was still able to push 250.
end of argument about female marines.
No way the media will let the Marine Corps report stand.
You will also be forced to take a course on "Building relations with women"....even though you had a mother, sisters, aunts, nuns, wives, girl friends...and other women you got along with...just fine.
We’ve become a silly country, culture, and society concerned about silly things.
Bad things occur when this happens.
He was a pretty good sprinter. Good enough to get a free ride to college (10.4s in the 100m) but not the best on his team.
However, he's still faster - by far - than the world's fastest female sprinter (10.49s in the 100m).
Only a single anecdote, but case closed.
The USMC attitude will ultimately prevail...one way or another.
yep.
Of course it takes more muscle and endurance to carry and operate a navy mop than it takes to carry a 60 lb. pack not including M15 with ammo 20 miles and then fight all night long.
ps - no offense meant to the deck swabbies around here.
It started out with a fairly large component of the men thinking this is not a good idea and women will never be able to do this.” - their mindset made the women fail
Liberal thinking on parade
This is from the Department of “You can’t tell me!...”
Anyone who is skeptical needs to be busted and tossed out immediately.

Seriously? I had no idea that the other services were THAT insane!
Men are stronger and faster. Thats just the plain non-PC truth.
Women are better at alot of things than men. But men are superior physically.
No doubt, there are some women that could kick the crap out of some men. I believe any woman in these programs could beat the tar out of a PajamaBoy, latte-sipping, metrosexual litte fancy man.
But still...
The same politically correct morons would be skeptical of a study on whether all male NFL teams do better than all female teams of cheerleaders or half-and-half teams with half men and half cheerleaders. #MuscleMassMatters
