David Ortiz has provided Boston Red Sox fans with countless memories. He helped end the 86-year World Series drought in 2004, played a key role in raising another championship banner in 2007 and won MVP of the 2013 World Series in one of the most historic performances in postseason history. In addition to that playoff success, Big Papi has created many more special moments with walk-off hits, towering home runs and an engaging personality. Ortiz reached another milestone in his Hall of Fame-worthy career Saturday by hitting his 500th career home run in a win against the Tampa Bay Rays. Hes the 27th player to join the 500-home run club. It also marked his 50th multi-homer game.

Ortiz is one of just four players to ever hit 500 home runs and win three World Series, along with Babe Ruth, Reggie Jackson and Mickey Mantle.
John Kerry’s favorite player, “Manny Ortez.”
Also a PED user. I guess some of them are okay?
Prove that
Guilty or not, I think he’s going to be tarnished by this entire generation of ballplayers who PED users. He may not get rejected entirely, but I do believe that the 500-HR mark has lost a lot of its luster in the minds of a lot of Hall of Fame voters.
Congrats Big Papi!
Any facts? Talk is cheap.
He didn’t like the welfare-collecting Tsarnaev murderers and did not hold back in his remarks about them. He was not born American but he sure has become a good American in many ways, even if his foul mouth did get the better of him.
Barry Bonds 762
Sammy Sosa 609
Mark McGwire 583
Rafael Palmeiro 569
Gary Sheffield 509
All these players, with superior numbers, have been eligible for the Hall of Fame but have not even come close to being elected. And these guys played in the field. Ortiz has been basically just a DH, a half a player. So why should Ortiz get in before them?

Just one of many well-documented pieces of evidence. Nobody denies he cheated.

He does like the roids per the mitchell report
Give it a rest—he’s terrific.
.
“Give it a resthes terrific.”
Give what a rest? Barry Bonds, Alex Rodriguez and Roger Clemons are not nice guys, so their cheating we cannot countenance? David Ortiz is a nice guy, so he can cheat?
The DH is one of the worst innovations of baseball in my lifetime.
No matter, I lost interest in baseball forever following that 1994 strike. Ortiz may be a terrific guy, but as far as I am concerned, he is only half a player.
How many are due to PEDs?
Thanks for the link. It wasn’t proven he cheated, he may have though.
Ortiz is a fan favorite in Boston, since he delivered two World Series.
500 home runs is amazing but suspicious.
Ortiz is a loser in my opinion, because he is a boring DH hitter and used the “f” word when talking to the Boston crowd.
Was in the list of 103 players who failed the preliminary test just before they put the penalties in place.
Also, fits the PED pattern perfectly. When he came up with the Twins, he was a little scat hitter who could barely hit enough to stay in the majors.
The Twins sent him to AAA, then released him. The Red Sox signed him for Pawtucket (AAA). Suddenly, he bulked up and became a big-time power hitter.
