Obama Gains Enough Senate Votes to Block Iran Deal Opposition

President Obama has earned enough Democratic votes in the Senate to filibuster a Senate effort to block the Iran nuclear deal, if necessary.

On Monday, Sens Sen. Gary Peters (D-MI) , Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR) , and Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) announced their support for the deal, tallying enough votes to successfully filibuster the deal.

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) announced his opposition to the deal in a surprise defection from Obama, citing Iran’s support of terrorism and the death of American soldiers.

“This regime has shown no signs that its deplorable behavior will change, and this deal does nothing to guarantee that behavior changes,” Manchin said.

Only three other Democratic senators voiced their opposition to the deal — Sens. Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Sen. Robert Menendez (D-NJ

, and Ben Cardin (D-MD)

Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-WI)has not revealed how she would vote.

The news comes one day prior to an opposition rally against the deal at Congress featuring Donald Trump, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX)96%, Sarah Palin, Mark Levin, and Glenn Beck.

It is time to invoke the Reid Rule and unilaterally abolish the filibuster.

To bad Mitch McConnell has no balls.

My first question is if there are any Republicans part of this (part of the Democrats’ plan), and secondly, will McConnell make them follow through with their filibuster and make them conduct it rather than just threaten it?

Amazing Manchin finally came to that conclusion. In reality he got an earful from West Virginians. If Obama needed another, Joe would have been on his knees in a heartbeat.

Perhaps most of them feel, as President Hussein Obama obviously does, that it just isn’t fair that the U.S. & other countries have the atomic bomb and Iran doesn’t./s

Great minds think alike.

This would be the perfect opportunity. The Democrats voted for this cockamamie scheme to have a majority vote to disapprove the agreement, which Obama can then veto, to circumvent the Constitutional requirement of a supermajority (two-thirds) of the Senate to approve a treaty.

Now that they have their scheme in place they refuse to allow a vote. At the very least, McConnell should invoke the Reid Rule on this vote.

Alternatively, McConnell should simply say “fine we won’t vote on this scheme, instead we will submit it for approval as a treaty,” which will fail unless it gets a supermajority vote.

Can someone help me with the procedural issues of the “Iran Deal?” What I don’t understand is why the senate has to block this deal as if it is presumed enacted, while they always have to approve every other treaty or foreign executive action that binds the country. What am I missing? Does it have to do with this ridiculous Corker bill?

If McConnell had any balls, he’d go nuclear and there could be no filibuster. If there was ever a time to do it, it is now with the threat of a nuclear Iran in the balance.

Only in Bitch McConnell’s kangaroo kabuki senate does Obama have the votes for anything.

In a real senate, he would have a DOA treaty.

But I guess arming Iran with nuclear weapons is a matter that is going to have to be dealt with by another president who hopefully is of a different mind, and by another senate with an actual leader of an actual party that opposes madness and lunacy.

The newest parliamentary parlor trick now allows for an international non-treaty treaty to be passed with a minority vote in the Senate. That angry Constitutional lecturer that talks from the teleprompter on the TV sure knows his was around the Constitution....and I mean AROUND the Constitution.

I’ve always thought there should be no filibuster. You get the majority or you don’t. But since every Party knows they will be in he minority at some point, they will never fully get rid of it.

While having a drunken bar-b-que discussion with a dem over the weekend, and I mentioned that this would put a nuke in the hands of Iran, who sais repeatedly that they will wipe isreal off the face of the map, the lib was ecstatic about the possibility that the invader oppressors would die by the millions, he was honestly really relishing the thought

Thank you, Ted Cruz and the rest of the GOP who voted to give away their constitutional power!!!!

...and for what?

Cruz claims that the Corker deal gives Congress a say in the Iran deal.

Please show me where the Senate has had any input!

The Corker deal is nothing but POLITICAL COVER for a feckless, spineless GOP (you too, Cruz) that is doing the bidding of the US Chamber of Commerce.

You see, the US Chamber members can’t wait to get a piece of that $150 billion pie that Iran gets. But the GOP knows its base would never support this deal with Iran, so they had to come up with a way to approve it and get political cover.

The excuse we heard was if the Senate does nothing, then Obama will go alone and do the deal anyway.

THEY SHOULD HAVE LET OBAMA GO IT ALONE.....THEN CHALLENGE IT IN COURT!!!

Now, Obama has Senate approval and most courts will say that the Senate voted for and agreed to the deal.

I am sick and tired of being told what a great protector of the constitution we have in Ted Cruz (or anyone else).

They are all sellouts.....and now Cruz is selling himself out to Trump.
