...Israel needs to impart a powerful, disorganizing shock to the Iranian regime that accomplishes realistic military objectives: digging out its expensive underground enrichment plants, destroying its Arak plutonium reactor and maybe Bushehr in the bargain, killing its bomb and missile professionals, scientists and technicians, IRGC bases, its oil production sites, oil export terminals and the leaders of the regime where they can be found.
...its initial strike must move very fast and be conclusive within 1-2 hours, like the Israeli air attack opening the 1967 Six-Day War. The goal is to so stun the regime that Israel controls the first and subsequent phases of the war and its ending. This means that Israel must hit enough critical targets with maximum shock and be willing to revisit or expand its targets so as to control blowback and retaliation from Iran's allies. In essence, this involves a very fast-paced Israeli redesign of the Middle East in the course of a nuclear war for survival.
...what is poorly appreciated is that nuclear weapons from 10 to 300 kilotons (KT) depending on accuracy can destroy deep hard targets to 200+ meters depth by ground coupling if they penetrate merely 3 meters into the ground (Effects of Nuclear Earth Penetrators and Other Weapons: National Research Council / National Academy Press, 2005, pp. 30-51). Israel could lower bomb yields or achieve deeper target kills by its reported tests of two-plane nuclear attacks in which the first plane drops a conventional HTM like a GBU-28 to open up a channel; the second plane drops its tactical nuclear bomb into that 'soft' channel for greater depth before bursting. This unavoidably

Do you know what the Israeli nuclear policy is?
Israel must be like a mad dog, too dangerous to bother. I consider it all hopeless at this point. We shall have to try to prevent things from coming to that, if at all possible. Our armed forces, however, are not the thirtieth strongest in the world, but rather the second or third. We have the capability to take the world down with us. And I can assure you that that will happen before Israel goes under.
-- General Moshe Dayan, quoted by military historian Martin van Creveld in David Hirst's The Gun and the Olive Branch (2003)
Yet the Russian Tartos naval base was protected by SA300s but that didn’t stop the IAF from operating within the “umbrella”. So we maybe be making a bigger deal of the 300 system than it really is. SA 400s - another kettle of fish.
Are you sure it was S-300?
I think it was the Tor M-1.
I like how you think. I too am of the Curtis Le May school of warfare.
The clock is ticking for an Israeli response. That clock was started by the senate democrats a few days ago. What happens when this deal is in place will be MAD and too bad. Israel the clock is set and time is not on your side since the US will be obligated to defend IRAN!!!
Most important paragraph - one the West seems bound and determined to totally ignore:
“The Iranian elite’s ideology and controlling political psychology is inherently preferential towards nukes and direct population targeting as a way to implement Shi’ite messianism and end-times extremism. Iran is a newly nuclear apocalyptic Shi’ite regime that ranks as the most blatantly genocidal government since the Khmer Rouge’s Sorbonne-educated leaders took over Cambodia in April, 1975. Senior Iranian officials have periodically tied nuclear war to the return of the Twelfth Imam or Mahdi, which Iran’s previous president anticipated within several years. This reflects not just the triumphalist enthusiasm of a new arriviste nuclear power that just won more at the table than it dared to dream. It also reflects a self-amplifying, autarchic end-days theology that is immune to both reality testing and to Western liberal/progressive tenets about prim and proper nuclear behavior.”
In other words, Obama and Kerry just gave Iran the way to begin nuclear annihilation of the total human race - their goal, and Obama’s legacy.
Take that, Gwen.
The planning for Project Daniel began in 2003, was initiated within 24 months and preparations began, and will reportedly be complete by 2017, already 5/6ths finished.
By way of comparison, the U.S. Manhattan Project began modestly in 1939 and it's efforts were not culminated until 06 August, 1945.
They are apocalyptic Religious nut jobs with extra helpings of super crazy sauce.
We are handing a gun to a fanatic. There is no way this doesn't work out bad.
Prophesy? Revelation? Daniel?
Has to be before this agreement goes officially into effect, and before their new Russian ABMs go on-line.
A legitimate military target, as defined by the US Government after the Clinton Administration's targeting of Belgrade's Radio Television of Serbia headquarters on 23 April 1999, during the Kosovo War.
Neca eos omnes. Deus suos agnosce
Meggido. Deuteronomy 32:42
I'd suggest you stay as far away from the Washington beltway as you can until then, and avoid being downwind as much as possible. And if all of a sudden the TV network broadcasts from New York go out and your cell phone goes dead, you're on your own.
We are handing a gun to a fanatic, who intrends to use it against someone in the same room with us, and that intended target is holding a hand grenade with the pin out.
That is what I worry about most, an Iranian EMP. They’ve already been monitored in the Caspian Sea playing around with vertical launches (and subsequently destroying their rockets) that would put *something* in orbit in such that it would float right up our southern border.
No, the Russian Naval base at Tantros has SA300s. They will likely upgrade to the 400 system if or when this thing gets hotter.
SA15s are not meant to protect a large navel base with some of Russia’s best naval assets transiting.
We are not handing simply a gun to a fanatic, but a whole system of 30mm cannons or Gatling guns on steroids
It’s like living in the Soviet Cold War era. Nuclear annihilation is once again a viable possibility.
