If you've ever wondered what it's like to be slapped by a grizzly bear, just ask Brad Joseph.
The naturalist took his GoPro on a recent trip to Alaska, only to meet a grizzly bear who wasn't as big a fan of wearable technology as the rest of us.
Luckily, the disgruntled grizzly only hit the camera not Joseph himself.

I have to deal with black bears from time to time here in the Colorado Rockies. No way I would be there with grizzleys!

Naturalist.......he could have just been naturally mauled by the bigger one in the background.
Some people just don’t have any sense. It must be the ‘journalist’ syndrome - impervious to harm when behind a camera or microphone.

No one was standing next to or holding the camera.

Uh, he most certainly was. He picked up the camera, with the small bear about 10 feet away, the big ass grizzly bear in the back was probably 100 feet away.
Certainly a honorable Darwin nomination. Can’t be in the running because he got lucky, this time.

That camera had to be set up on a tripod or something, there is no way anyone is stupid enough to just stand there as a grizzly cub and an adult grizzly approach within feet. The cub is looking at nothing but the camera. I think the guy’s overstating what occurred for clickbait. He was nowhere near enough to be in any danger, imho.

I don't understand people who insist on getting up close and personal with undomesticated large animals, especially if they are breaking reserve or park regulations to do so. Getting that close to a grizzly seems like the purest insanity to me, especially after the Timothy Treadwell incident.
If these folks love those animals so much, they must understand that not only are they endangering themselves (and whatever companions are foolish enough to accompany them, like Treadwell's hapless girlfriend), but they're also likely to get the animal shot after it injures or kills them.

If he was holding the camera, or standing right next to it, why was the camera laying on the ground when video of the bear was obtained?
He could have stepped out of a vehicle or out of a protective barrier and picked up the camera when the bear was about 50’ away.

Bears like to slap game cam’s around and bite them and do other nasty things to them.

Yep!
Bears have to learn to respect journalistic integrity.

"Bears have to learn to respect journalistic integrity." Bear vs. Camera reminds me of Trump vs. Jorge Ramos: "Sit down it's not your turn."

A lot of cameras come with wide-angle lens (makes big mountain and urban shots will fit in), so for the tourist that just has to have that good picture of a bear that fills the frame, gotta get closer, closer, ....

The Trump/Ramos thing was all staged theater anyway.

Here's a photo of a GoPro camera for scale.

Given that it can be almost completely enclosed in one hand and the footage, it was not handheld during the shoot. We would have been reading about a serious mauling.

Btw, I'm familiar with gopro. They're overpriced, and their are better values out there. And there is no "footage" so to speak with with digital cameras. It's all about memory, storage capacity, processor etc.
